Follow on from my other thread Sad

Since compression test and refill on saturday, the car has ran great and not got hot.

However today as the missus was coming back on the school run, the temp gauge shot right up again Sad

She told me the car kept cutting out and she had to restart, when i went to the car, big splurgle of water when taking the rad cap off, and noticed the temp gauge was around 100 degrees, however the fan WASNT running ???

Also noticed water in the passenger footwell

Do i have a triple/quad problem here? cutting out, overheating, water in footwell, fan not working?

Any help appreciated
Thanks

If the water shot out of the cap upon removal it sounds like one of 3 things, dodgy thermostat, air lock or headgasket.

The water in footwell could be the matrix, if this is the case and you are slowly loosing water then that could be the cause of your overheating and also the cause of an air lock. The fan not working isnt going to help matters but you shouldnt need your fan too work to control the temp unless in traffic really.

Likewise with the cutting out, worst case is its cutting out because it is too hot which will have probably done damage, it could be nothing related to the overheating though.

Depends if it was hot though, anywhere near 100 degrees and the water will coming flying out no matter what Shock

the excess pressure from a failing HG can blow a heater matrix.

Get a sniffer test done on the coolant pressure test wont always show up a head gasket failure

i would say heater matrix if there is water in the foot wells also could have a headgasket problem there, is there white shit under the oul cap and rad cap?

wouldn't there only be deposits if the water and oil were mixing? the head gasket may have gone and just be pressurising the coolant causing the matrix to go and leak water causing the over heating?

mine still went like stink till the day the misfire on startup didn't clear, AdamB can vouch for that Thumbs up

my oil + water didn't mix, like mark rightly said the gasket can go without mixing with the oil.

My matrix didn't let go properly till the night it went.

though I have to say I never did a compression test on it.

+1

My car had a dodgy idle for ages. Even before the Track'n'Road RR day back in march where it put out power right where it should have for low boost. It also hesitated in the mornings and this would clear up after a minute or so. My first trackday last month was the final straw as the symptoms got worse and one of the piston rings on the leaking cylinder broke so I got white smoke and crankcase pressurisation Angry

Let me just recap what the actual problems im facing are

White Smoke (not loads)
NO loss of power
NO Misfire
NO oil in water & vice versa
Overheating
Coolant pressurising
Water in passenger footwell
Cutting out

Compression test @ cold shown 175-190 psi on all cylinders

Sniffer/Combustion leak test on coolant proved OK, with no change in colour of the solution

How else would the car produce white smoke, this is a sure sign of it burning coolant, hinting towards HG, water in the footwell is matrix, maybe both are f*cked Sad

Sorry to ask a daft question but is the car up to temp with the white smoke? May be condensation?

i'd try a comp test when warm and all has expanded

maybe a dodgy water pump not pumping enough i have seen them coming out with a few damaged fins

Matrix has to be leaking for water in foot well

engine must be burning water for white smoke

so i'd say there is more than just the 1 problem
