Hi people.

Just wondering if anybody know how much pressure the standard manifold can take before it cracks or explodes etc.

Im doing a dissertation at uni and im thinking of doing it on a redesigned inlet for my 309 turbo project. Obviously if the standard manifold can take the boost pressure there is no point re-designing it ....

probably should point out its a gti6 engine (hence inlet) not a 309 gti one.

also bit unlikely but does anybody have a 3d cad file of the inlet?

cheers

I hope you have Dani or Steve as a supervisor!

Other than that I can't be of much help. Apart from the Resonator I think something else would fail before the manifold.

yeh i have both i think lol. My resonator already failed from a backfire (incorrect timing lol)
just wondering why they replace them on the s/c conversions if the std are upto the job?

Id also be redesigning it for better airflow, but if the std gti6 inlet already flows well then i might struggle.

Pretty much sure this is just because of space Yes

I would think the standard inlet would need some sort of work to work correctly with either a turbo or superchargerWink
If you remove TB and look inside inlet manifold they have got trumpets built into the manifold for each intakeSmile
I would guess these would cause a restriction on a pressurised inlet, they certainly would be a restriction in flow I would thinkWink

Nah, they'd work pretty well anyway, at the end of the day the standard manifold is just a higher pressure source of air for the engine, all you've done is lengthened it, the trumpets provide a longer acceleration ramp for the airflow, that'll work at higher pressures too.
Resonant lengths will want looking at though because of the new air density.

yeh seen that kev, says he got lower power results from it tho so he removed it lol. I was thinking a complete redesign, ie have twin inlets on the front of the inlet, not the side. As theoretically this should give more equal flow to the cylinders and also flow better as its face on with the valves and not side on like the standard throttle body. The only real problem is going to be space. It tight enough in the 309 engine bay as it is, so i might have to make a compromise.
