Hi all. Need some advice ASAP.

Bought a 306 with bit of a suspension knock. Knowing the top mount bearing is usually at fault I went to replace them today, but was shocked to find the bolts that go through the turret into the top mount plate were loose. Not only were they loose, they have stripped the top mount plate of its thread. No surprise that it knocks and creaks!

Other than buying new top mount plates can I a) get the plates re-thread or Cool use longer bolts & nut from underneath???

Any advice welcome. Is the car drivable or does it need to be recovered?

Thanks,

James

are all 3 bolts stripped?

for the cost of them I'd just replace, I don't think there is enough material to fit an insert, there MAY be enough space to fit a nut on underneath.

You could drill them and the strut top out and tap them to M10, but for the price, it's probably easier to fit a new one.
Nuts underneath would hit the spring pans - there's only about 3-4mm spare.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Looks like I best go buy a new plate.

Anyone know where I can buy one for a reasonable price? Im off on tuesday, so ideally need to pick up or ensure delivery before then.
