put new discs and pads on the rallye for snetterton next week, bedded them in as you should, edal travels excessively so bled the brakes up.

Still excessive travel so bled them again with a full flush with clean stuff.

Just been back out and the brake pedal travels nearly to the floor during heavy braking but if you quickly let off and brake again its rock hard. leave it a few seconds and brake again, pedal nearly hits the floor again until you pump it.

Any ideas? master cylender from pushing the brake pistons back and therefore the fluid back into the res? Anything else.

Im a little stuck but need to sort it before thursday, really stuggling now?

Anyone?

Sounds like something is wrong with the servo unit.

vaccum?

air still in the system?

faulty master cylinder?

faulty servo?

try making the abs kick in on gravel at speed a few times, then bleed again.
if that doesent work then start looking at the other possibilities in list.

hope that helps.

Going to use a pressure bleeder tonight and try again, Im stumped with it because its was fine before I replaced the old pads and discs.

put it this way, at the minute the brake pedal in the diesel is alot more firmer!!!

seized rear load compensator I'd imagine, as well as being too low...

Wasnt an issue before swapping the pads and discs tho. And the rear load compensator is fine, always check it when Im under the car and give it a b;last with WD40.

Thinking it may be a Master Cylinder issue, is it the 22.2mm on these?

Would it not be a little odd that the master cylinder would just give up though as your changing the fluid? Dunno Has something triggered it?

quite common actually if they're a few years old, most likely is that the seals are damaged or inverted from moving through corrosion on a part of the master cylinders bores that wouldn't have been used under normal use, whereas you'll be using full travel when bleeding.

Precisely - i've seen more than one master cylinder killed this way.

The sign of a firm pedal after a double pump is a sure sign there is air in the system normally. It might well be trapped in your ABS so be sure to cycle it on some loose gravel before re-bleeding.

What did you do whilst pushing the pistons in Ben? Did you open a bleed nipple or just back-fill the Master Cylinder?

Have a look in Berger's S/C Xsara thread, he picked up a brand spanker ATE one from either GSF or Andrew Page I think it was.

To be honest Ben, that's all I ever do and i've done my front pads a good few times.

The official line is that ABS cars don't like it (and you should open a bleed nipple with a one way valve line on it), but i've never had an issue. Over-vigorous bleeding with the pedal is the usual culprit.

Well pressure bled the system now, feels better but wont really tell until everythings got hot and given proper beans.

still not overly convinced with the amount of travel before then bite but hoping that could be down to everything being new
