MOPing has become second nature to me these days, so I thought I may as well buy one.

The last "which MOP" thread was a few years back so wondered which model/make people are using at the moment.

I need something fairly robust, that is to say it won't fall apart under heavy/excesive use.

The usual advice/input/abuse all welcome. Happy

If you want something cheap go for a Kestrel/ Cleanyourcar 180 Sim, if you are feeling flush go for a Festool Shinex RAP 150.
Makita also got a good rep and is priced between these.

I really rate the kestrel units especially the one with soft start (really helps reduce sling off). I find the weight reassuring and actually prefer the kestrel unit to the really light ones such as the 3M and Milwaukee machines.

I have not tried it but what about this? It's the same price as a kestrel unit and has shitloads of pads etc with it.

Good price for the kit to get you started, but does not advertise speeds, which is not really a big deal but i know somebody who bought something cheap like the above and the speed was something like 2000 rpm on minimum, which is way too quick.
All i have heard about the 3M machines are they are light but very loud!

Roll eyes

But back on topic, I've only ever used the MOPS at work but apparently they're about 350 notes Shock

Can't see me forking that much out so might take a gander at some of the options above. Smile

I've just ordered a Meguiars G220 DA which has good reviews and isn't priced too badly.

See here

Thumbs up

i can personally vouch for the meguiras g220 da as ive been using it on my rallye. but i find its better at getting more of a finish than cutting through the paint. its brilliant for de swirling (using the right products) and getting that mirror like finish.

my car had been completely flatted back so it needed something with abit more power i used the 3m rotary polisher to cut it back then the g220 to get the finish. (very very good) so good i will be investing in one by far the best mop ive used and only weights around 1.8kg. the speed rating is very good really slow start and goes up to more than enough speed for mopping. very controllable as well but not the cheapest at around £250 with the 3m backing plate. then you have to get pads which are only about £5 each.

here is the finish i got using the 3m rotary and the meguiras g220 da:

Must be half decent to do a whole car like that. Am I reading the link wrong or is it priced at £130? Bargain if it's that good. Yes

Just a quick update. I've just ordered a chicago pneumatic 8210. They're the mops we've always used at work, so made sense to stick with what I know. Plus, from reading around, they seem to be one of the best on the market.

I'll be doing reasonably priced full mops, partial mops, scratch removal, swirl correction etc as soon as I have my stuff together, I'll do a propper thread for this at a later date.

Probably the wrong time of yrar to start doing this but still. LOL

I used a milkwaukee one and liked it but I personally rate the cheap silverline/kestral units. The added weight inspires confidence. For a pro though you want one as light as poss.

Our valetors use mops that are somewhere between an angle grinder and a circular saw, they're f*cking horendous! I suppose you get used to whatever's made available to you.
