or will i need new rods too?

changing rods can be a pain in arse so would be easier to find some pistons that have the right size rod straight away. as said, xu10j2te pistons have a big dish to lower the compression and use same length (iirc) con rods. These give 8:1 iirc.

no not s16 pistons, 2.0 8v turbo from a 406.

it is easy, the hard bit is fabricating a turbo onto it...

although you might want to find out if the 16v heads valves will clear the turbo pistons as they have no valve cut outs. im not sure if it will or not, never tried it

Might as well go custom rods and pistons so you can safely crank up the boost Devil

depends on budget though mate. custom rods and pistons are £900+ in some cases. where as my s16 and a decompression plate cost me £200 total. If your planning on running more than 20psi boost its probably worth it though.

Trur true. I would just think the temptation to up the boost would be too high Doh

wossner do some 8:1 pistons for the gti6, probably the best way to go i reckon, and from what I can find, (using rich w as an example) then they will fit on the gti6 rods

i will want up to around 20-22 eventually, as above, you always want more....lol but i have to be realistic and that its fwd and traction will be an issue

if there is a cheap (cheaper than 1k for low comp) option then i would do it at the same time, rather then run high comp, then later to low comp and then have to buy a new turbo and mapping again

for under a grand you could get rods and pistons forged in low comp version... but this wouldnt include the cost for the remainder of the conversion.

Just to add there are 2 different types of 8v turbo pistons. One is dished and the other is a flat top iirc.
I think the low compression on the 8v's is achieved by large bowls in the head rather than the pistons. There was a fairly good topic on drivers about it a while back.

I'm interested in the c.r of a standard rs engine fitted with s16 pistons though if anyone knows?

Is that to keep the noise down or for POWER.

sc or turbo, both same noise wise, give or take,

to get SC i need over 2k close to 3k for second hand

and thats 240bhp

i'm hoping to sell ITBs and inject more funds up to around 2k'ish (total), and i'd hope to get around 300-350 Big grin

just the Low comp and Ex manifold are the parts that are causing me a headache (costs)

take the XU10J2 pistons and take of like 2mm.

Samething for mi16, take the pistons from xu9jaz ( 205 gti ) and take of 2mm on the piston.

is it not difficult fitting forged pistons to standard pins - something about a floating pin or something?

Is that still on the Dta?

Sounds like a good plan, 350bhp would be mental in your 205.

Any ideas on the compression ratios this would give you and do the pistons still need pocketing for valve clearance?

LOL an early turbo engine like a xm etc

the head bolts straight on

would atleast use new rings , bearings water & oil pumps tho

and arp bottom end rod bolts

other than that away you go

cr should be around your 8-1 Smile

It will be around 8ish, not sure of the numbers but it will hold as long as you got the proper mixture.

No need for pocketing Smile
