I have had the problem of a horrendous knocking and banging noises from both front wheels but mainly the Drivers side, Went to see a my cuz's flatmate who is a mech and when wiggled with the car still on the floor the whole assembly moves in all directions and makes a banging noise whilst doing so.

He seems to surgest the TRE's but that one was new in september. Its lowered 60+mm atm but im looking to raise it 10-20 to get more clearance with the smaller wheels and also get some handling back.

I have noticed that the CV grease seems to have been leaking as theres a small amount sprayyed afound the area(large end) which was also fitted a gen pug one at the same time as the TRE. Could this also be contributing to the noises?

Cheers

Yep the whole lot, wishbone, wheels all moves. I noticed that when you go on or come of throttle it also bangs and knocks the steering wheel slightly

what condition are your strut tops like? the bearings in them have a habit of drying out and turning to dust. this combinded with lowering it 60mm could have shagged the rest of your suspension bushes causing the play.

only way to tell is to drop the strut out and check them. but if your gona raise the car then you will have to do that anyway. its worth checking over all the suspension rubber as if these haven't been changed they will more than likely be on their way out or be totally shagged.

Would be best to jack the car up and check all the suspension and steering parts for loose or missing nuts/bolts.
Also check the bushes for play, although I don't think they would cause the kind of sounds you describe even if they were shagged.

With that much movement, I would say not to even think about driving it until you find the cause of the problem Sad

I take it you checked the springs as well?
Good luck with it Smile
