Is there anyway I can tell what is causing the ABS light to be on in my car, been on since I had it and ain't got round to it and need an MOT. Could tape the light up but I really need to get round to doing it so this is an ideal time. Is it something I can diagnose myself or just take it to someone to plug in and it will diagnose it there and then.

I think the only place you can take it to get it plugged in is a pug/citroen dealer (or an independednt that has pug/citroen diagnostic tools)

Taping the light up WILL NOT get it through the MOT as it should come on with ignition and go off when the engine is started, just like the engine management light.

You can check the sensors yourself quite easily, do a physical check, i.e look to see if there's any frayed wiring, you can also unplug the ABS unit and test the resistance to each sensor.

I'll sort out an FAQ shortly Smile

Top man, cheers for the advice. Any chance you know the resistance of the sensor, I am an electrician so that should be the easiest route for me to check!!

A pound to a pinch of sh*t its your abs rings on the drive shaft. Simple check, jack up one corner at a time and look where the end of the drive shaft meets the wheel and brake disc assembly. You should be able to see the abs sensor and a ring at the end of the hib which has lots of rectangular slots in it. Its a very common fault where the abs ring corrodes and drops off the drive shaft. The sensor no longer see's the holes so brings up a fault on the dash.

Well I have managed to look at the drivers side, its all there so I gave it a clean asell and then it started to p*ss down with rain so tmrw will be time for the passenger side to be checked. Used a multimeter to check the resistance and all 4 gave 1600 ohms so the sensors are all on there so it should be one of these rings.

What system is there on the rear wheels then?

Same system on all 4 wheels. The back rings are a bit different and tend not to fail, chances are it will be one of the front two.

nope, no abs. It is deadly when the roads are icey, I wouldn't mind not having it in the dry but I came so close to writing it off in the ice I don't want to talk about it lol
