the engine cutting out is most likely because she stomped on the brake pedal without dipping the clutch Wink

solid pedal was possibly due to the ABS having gone mental, did RAC man do anything to the car?

the engine hadn't stalled after the stop had it? sounds like a lack of servo assistance but it usually works for a few goes even after you switch off

She says she did dip the clutch although I suspect maybe she didn't.

No. He did nothing - its was fine when he got in and started it.

He said he thinks it may have been due to the servo from the engine cutting out.

Thats how she explained it - it stalled after she stopped.

sounds like it went hard while it was still moving after stalling, women get a bit confused at times so probably best to say yes dear I'll get it checked. Take it for a razz and say its been mended Wink
sounds like thats what the RAC bloke thinks

Yes, the peddle went hard. The RAC bloke took it for a spin.

I am having the garage check the full brake system over on Friday. It could do with doing anyway.

My ex had this issue on her 306, when the car stalled the brakes didnt work Crazy I was always under the impression that brakes would work to some degree even if everything else shutdown? Unsure

They do, but you need to press the brakes harder.
Doesn't help if the check valve in the servo line isn't sealing properly though either.

She has gone out this morning and the peddle just goes straight to the floor almost. The brake works slightly but not well.

Same problem?

nicking your topic a bit, but i have just took my servo apart to clean it up, where/what is the "check valve", the spindle inside it? i haven't touched that but if something was worth doing i wish i'd have seen this sooner Doh the master cylinder seal on the reverse of the MC (inset) also looks ok but i did have a small drip from the join sometimes. cleaned it up best i can cos i don't fancy buying a new MC just yet LOL

might f*ck it off and run a diff pedal box, less problems Unsure

the valve is that white bit the hose to the vacuum pump connects to.

oh, so it's just a little 90degree plastic outlet connected via a rubber grommet i think. i pulled it all out and refitted it after, looked ok and sealed nicely.. we'll see when my brakes fail entirely.. Blink

sorry, ignore that, you mean the actual one at the pump Doh the white and black one with outlets on it with the direction indicator on it

Have you checked all the brake lines for leaks or splits. One of the lines split on mine and it slowly lost its fluid over a couple of days, every now and again the pedal would go striaght to the floor then it would work fine. Eventually the pedal went to the floor and there was nothing at all, even after repeated presses.

Replaced the split line, new fluids and all has been well since. Don't know if this bare's any relevance but may be worth a check ?!

Yeah, it's just a little plastic housing with a sealing disc and a spring in it - they do start sealing a bit intermittently over time though, so worth cleaning out if nothing else.
