The electics have been bahaving a bit strangely lately..

The other day i parked up, took the key out the ignition, and was then quite suprised to find the car still happily running. I had to stall it to turn it off.

When i came to start it again, the fuel pump wasnt priming, so it had no intention of starting. I disconnected the battery, and left it for a minute or so, and then it was fine.

went to start it the next day and the battery was completely dead. Jumped it off another car and then put a multi meter on it and tried to find where the amp drain was. took every fuse in and out, but the drain remained. gave the ECU a whack and it seemed to stop. i then notice that the relay off the back of the ECU, was broken, flopping around loose with a big hole in the top of the casing. replaced that last night, and was hoping all would be well. havent checked to see if the drain is still there, (ive been disconnecting the battery when the car is left) but this morning when i parked at work and turned the car off, the stereo was still singing away, where as before it would turn off with the ignition.

any one got any ideas what could be at fault???

There are two places you can out the stero fuse so it could simply need pulling out and outting in in a different position.

The broken relay may well have been the cause of the car running on with out the key. Another possibility is the ignition switch but i'd check it now you've fixed the relay before you go pulling the steering column apart to get to it.

However I think the stereo staying on was probably due to putting the fuse for it back in the wrong place, it has 2 positions 1 it stays on all the time and the other it switches on and off with the ignition

D'oh took to long to type itRazz

Think it's number 1 if it's in line with all the other fuses it's on all the time, if it's in the lower position then it's switched. the only other fuse that can do that is the cigarette lighter socket which I think is 23 but don't quote me on that.

thanks for that . Im pretty sure i put all the fuses back in their same positions, and also that fuse 1 was put in "half mast", but i will have a little fiddle at lunchtime. fingers crossed its something as simple as fuse alignment!!

Quick update - I've moved the fuse into its inline position, and the stereo is now behaving itself and switching off with the ignition.
Got a multimeter on the battery too, and it seems my charge drain is no more.

Thanks to Craig & Dan Thumbs up

well its a fuelpump/ignotion relay i believe - but the ECU sits just behind the battery, and the relay is fixed to the back of the ECU box
