I would change to a genuine clutch cable too, I had a load of problems with a Euro parts one.

In regards to the cable, i'm sure most people on here use GSF ones right?

I've used three different cables and had exactly the same troubles every time - i can't believe no one else buying them has had the same problems and i get three duff ones in a row? Crazy

In regards to the fork arm, it looked straight as you like and it would also seem a bit unlikely both my old fork arm and bigbadbowens fork arm from his box are bent?

but yes the clutch cable is where im focussing my attention - as i put a spacer on last time (cut a section of nut out and added it on the end of the cable) and it made a slight difference in helping reduce the frequency of the problem.

I did try getting a photo, however its obviously too dark.. so this weekend i'll get back under and over the car to get some pics of where my cable is routed. But as far as the connection goes to the gearbox - thats all as it should be Thumbs up

I've got a few things to look at at the weekend. If it is the cable then we're looking so far at a 3 way split of the 50 quid Hmm

Shit, did it not fix the problem? Sad

It is quite annoying, I have lost count of how many times we've been stuck at a junction trying to get your car in gear LOL

I'd look at the pedal inside the car to see if it is moving in ways that it shouldn't.

Then check that your linkages are all ok and not slack.

is the gear shift throw rod loose or ball worn. not hard to check, remove centre console and gater and see if there is any slack when pulling up on the shaft or pushing down on it. could be worn an slipping in and out, keeping u out of gears. as for the cable that could something diffrent. also have u checked if the chassis any bent since the prang?

Interesting about the centre console.. not thought of that. But as discussed i'm mainly focussed now on the clutch cable as you can feel the clutch drag when it starts Wink

had the whole engine out over the summer and the legs were fine - it was obviously only a light hit as the bonnet is only slighlty bent

Apologees, but I haven't read the entire page through.

My 205 GTi6 conversion had problems putting it into gear and you had to sometimes force it into some of the gears. The biting point was also low down to the floor. Got Sandy to adjust the adjuster for the biting point of the clutch to move it "higher up" and now its much better (well, except I keep stalling it or revving it like a chav as I'm not used to the new bite point LOL)

Does yours use the 6 speed box mate?

Any ideas how he did that? Put a spacer on somewhere to 'stretch' the cable a bit more?

Nah, standard 205 1.9 GTi BE3 box on it. There is a very tiny "adjuster" thing on the gearbox somewhere I believe. IIRC I think it needs a really tiny allen key to turn it. I didn't see exactly where it was, but it was in the gearbox area between the throttle body and the thermostat area and easily reachable from the top.

If all elese fails, PM Sandy and see what he says. Smile

Yeh the 6 box doesn't have this (i don't think LOL)

Just uses a self adjusting clutch cable - i'm going to try and space it out to see if it helps Geek

Whats sandy's username, is it just 'sandy'?

Yeah, either "sandy" or "sandybrown" or "sandy205". I forget which as I know him on a few forums.

Long shot and probably miles off but have you removed the 'sporty' spring from the top of the clutch peddle? After my clutch change this caused a load of problems that were immediately fixed with the removal of the spring. i.e. hard to get into gear, slipping clutch, moving biting point and a sticking peddle.
