Having a nightmare getting the correct driveshaft seal for the drivers side (the smaller one that goes into the speedo housing).

Basically the one i want looks like the one pictured below with the white insert but peugeot are saying that the part number listed for all 306 gti's is 312144.

I bought this yesterday, and surprise surprise it has no insert. Just called them now and they confirmed all seals are the same throughout the range and the part number listed (312144) doesn't have the white insert Crazy

This is what they should look like:

And this is what i've been given:

Problem solved finding Pete's old thread (here after a more extensive search) Big grin

Seems they've updated the seal.

that looks 100% fine Smile

I don't think I've ever seen the larger one with an insert.

im sure the one that i bought not so long back had been changed from the original that was allready in there, the newer one doesnt look as good as the original does it, although by the sounds of it, its been improved

Anything I should look out for when changing the seal? I'm doing my passenger side lower arm tomorrow, and figured I best change it considering that the seal is 'misting' (not a bad leak, but it is weeping a little).

It looks straightforward, but as always I like to be prepared Smile.

Wrong, Both seals should look like the one on the left, the pattern (GSF, ECP etc)parts normally look like the ones in your picture and I've found leak too often so I always use the OE ones

So all new OE seals are the black rubber type ?

Having changed my driveshafts last week I now have a leak, so going to have to do the seals ASAP.

Easy enough to get in and out ?

think it means the large seal goes to the side with the shortest drive shaft and the smaller one goes on the longer side.

No, they are the same on pretty much all PSA cars.

Do you have to take the long shaft out, then take the speedo housing off to get the seal in ?

Epic thread revival yes, but better than starting a new one. Had my driveshaft seals replaced by Carl G when he did my clutch, long and short of it, does this look in anyway right? I would say, ignore the oil on the seal as i think thats from a spillage by myself and i think a bit leaks from somewhere above, but the seal or dust cover seems to stick out a mile!
