Hey there guys,

Just thought I would show some progress on some of the bits I have been doing to the exterior plastics.

Most of the car is colour coded already but I wanted a few bits different so here goes.

I repaced the oe spoiler with a spoiler from Ecosse a few years back which I think is ok but I am going to go back to standard once I am done painting it.

Cleaned and sanded ready for primer

The rub strips are also colour coded already but are phase 1 strips and I have been looking at getting some phase 3 strips for some time and finally found some a few weeks back in gaystone...ahem, Moonstone Whistle which is probably why I got them for the bargain price of

Done this to my old diablo one and now my rallye, the problem is when you remove the ph2 strips as they are larger and have been on the car for ages, they vibrate and leave marks on the paint where they have been, once you remove them and fit the smaller ph3 ones you can see these marks.

Both off mine had these issues. Just a heads up.

Nice paintwork by the way.

I was a bit worried about the paint under the original strips as some will be seen once the thinner strips are in place.

Hopefully I will be able to clean it up to blend in but will have to see when I take the strips off.

Worse case is that I will have to stick with the phase 1 strips but we will see Smile

Rudolf, paint code is KQM0 paint used was Halfords spray paint which should be pretty much same as from Peugeot.

Colour match will depend on the original paintwork as the cans colour will be the same as if the car was brand new but over time, a cars paint will fade and oxidise.

I would suggest giving the car a good clean including claybar, deswirler, polish, and wax to bring the best out of your paint and in turn, get a closer match to any new bits that you colour code on the bodywork Smile

Will get more pics up when done, and just remembered the black strip on the boot lid so that will be coming off shortly as well LOL

Here's the spolier and boot lid strip primed ready for painting...

Finnished the side strips but they were patchy after applying the lacquer which also decided to run Dry so I have sanded them back down again reay for repainting.

Spoiler is going to take a bit more work to get it nice and smooth for a good finnish.

Tailgate strip is all sorted now though Big grin

Before...

And after...

I think it's come out quite well and a good match from what I can see.
Hopefully will have the side strips and spoiler finnished by the weekend Smile

I dont think you have any visible exterior plastics do you swampy! LOL

Well, it's been too cold to bother spraying the final coats of paint and lacquer so will do it when it gets a little warmer as I am in no rush with these as the weather will only fook them up no doubt LOL

Does anyone know if I can replace the boot lock for the phase 2/3 one while keeping my original lock barrel so I can still use the same key as for the doors?

I know the key is rarely used what with the central locking but would be good to use the same key if it were to fail in the future Smile

Not just yet as I put it off for a bit as it was too cold.

I might get on with it later as the rain has warmed the air up a bit now, still not perfect for spraying but better than waiting months to finnish LOL

Prices..hmmm

I have been using 300ml cans from halfauds and I think I will end up using 4-5 cans of colour for all strips, spoiler, and boot lid strip.

Say 2-3 cans of primer (300ml)

And 1-2 cans of lacquer (500ml)

Prices were

Quick update,

Resprayed the strips again. Will be sanding back tomorrow when dry and then to lacquer in a few days time...

While I am at it, I thought I may as well re do the badge as it was starting to look a bit tatty after almost 3 years...

Quick sand down to take off the old lacquer ready for a few new coats of paint and a new lacquer coat.

The spoiler is being held off till last as I cant be arsed with it atm LOL

Good job, Sixysix Thumbs up

How bad do the strips mark, carl?

Is it a flat and mop job? or are they to deep? Just I was thinking of doing the same thing.

Just another quick update Whistle

Stips were painted as shown in previous post but as Diablo is a metalic paint, needs wet sanding back with 1200 grade wet & dry to get a matt finnish like so...

And another. On left is painted, right has been wet sanded ready for lacquer...

I cant stress this enough, but be very very careful when sanding the edges as it does not take much to start taking paint off and showing the primer/plastic underneath. I put quite a few coats on and still had to be uber light handed!

And the Diablo aftermath! LOL

And heres the strips and badge freshly lacquered...

Just need to let them dry properly now and then buff out any imperfections and then get them fitted.

Next...The spoiler, which I have been putting off till last as I dont fancy sanding it all down....Agian! Laugh my ass off

I think the phase 3 boot handle has no key slot so would be the best bet. When my battery went flat last year, I wanted to get into the boot but couldn't because the boot lock was jammed using the key. I then tried my other '6' and I couldn't even get the key all the way into the lock.

LOL Jon. Yes it's all clean and tidy now
My car on the other hand has not been washed in 2 months Whistle

Cheers Rudolf. Phase 3 boot buttons dont have the key hole. I also thought that the p2's key hole has a dummy lock and only used the remote cl. I could be wrong on that though.

If I can, I want to use the p2/3 outer badge with my original button, then I could use both key and cl to lock/unlock the tailgate Smile

New update at last!

Rub strips were finnished a few weeks back and looked good but still had slight orange peel from using the spray cans.

Not satisfied with that, I took to the wet & dry again and wet sanded them back again with 1500 paper, gave them time to dry and then went at them with some deswirler and polish to buff out the scratches and bring up the lacquer to a good shine again...all by hand I might add which takes bloomin ages LOL

Left side is unpolished after sanding and right shows the difference a little g3/deswirler makes. oh, and a lot of elbow grease!

And the finnis. Hard to see in photo's

Petrol cap strip, picture is turd, sorry...

Also refinnished my other badge...

Also went about cleaning up and painting the rusty foglights and towing hook...

Also dewipered the tailgate and bought a phase 2 boot badge from pug which I promptly hacked up and took to peices to make it fit the Phase 1 boot. Even managed to fit my original lock barrel as well so I can use the original key to open the boot if the cl should ever fail Smile

Before pic taken last year...

And after...

I am very pleased with the strips, they came out very well for a DIY job. The only down side is that there is a slight line under the strips there the older bigger ones rubbed on the paint as Carl had mentioned before. Hardly noticable though.

My original spoiler is almost ready for fitting as well. Just need to let the lacquer harden, sand and polish, then it will be replacing the Ecosse one in the picture.

Then it's on to the wheels!!!
