What an amazing project! Can i ask how did you manage to removed those unwanted seat brackets without hacksawing the bloody thing? is it a case of drilling the stud and it can be removed in one piece? I am thinking about doing this to mine.

Yes you need to drill out the welds.
Its not easy even with a spot weld drill they seem to hang on for dear life!

i just stripped all my bits off and sent them to be sand blasted and powdercoated. definately will make a note of the vinegar and ketchup trick for my next project. everybodys gone rear beam crazy this winter ......including me . glad mine is done now though.

come to think of it my mum used to do something similar to copper coins she used to collect with brown sauce, just rubbing them in it made them shine again.

How do you make a good job of it?
I done a bit on the front where it was rubbing and it split the paint a little

I think arches can be rolled using a special tool that preserves the paint, and IIRC, it attaches to the hub that acts as a pivot. I do know there's an art to using it, and its a gradual "back and forth many times" job. Its something done to Mk1 GT3's to be able to fit Mk2 wheels (slightly diff offset, they foul the arches on lock), and it's done non-destructively.

ETA - lovely project by the way, very interesting, although I'm in the "fit a real cage that will add structural rigidity" camp - sorry, I'll get me coat! Big grin

The rear axle was built up over the week end

The hole in the middle is to put half a litre of 90w axle oil in to help keep the bearings nice and stop them rusting. I have done this a few times on axles that have started to creek and it helps get rid of the noises, most of the time it saves the bearings from siezing.

The axle was fitted to the car and finished being built in place, the tank was cleaned and refitted.

the arms, torsions bars and brake pipes etc fitted.

so thats the back end mostly done,
Im pleased its gone from this

to this

just got to start on the front, and engine now.

Yeah it does get on your tits after a while, it seems to take ages to get anything done! Too many customers cars to get done first!
But it is good to sit back afterwards and look at the finished productSmile

Are you starting on the rear end of you 205 now? Or you had enough and just want to use it?
This is why I have done mine this way round other wise if I started at the front first, I would end up getting it running and just using it, then nothing else would get finished!

Engine wise your is nearly there now isnt it?

Theres some serious 306 renovations going on lately. Good to see that some will last and survive whilst the rest begin to rot.
