Been making the o/f engine mount this week and the rose joint bottom arms

first the mount, start off with some 4mm plate and a 40mm square box section;

as I had some spare un-used 205 rear beam mount I cut the top bush mounts off a scrap 205 rear beam and turned the down to make them look nice.

after a lot of cutting and welding you end up with this and you can see its a lot lighter than the original mount;

cut the bottom alternator mounts off the old engine mount;

and fit the new mount complete with new alternator adjuster;

Then the front suspension, as I using the Gaz coilover from my 205 I need to make some rose joint antiroll bar links cause the standard 205 ones dont fit;

I then started to copy the BTCC car rose joint bottom arms, the wishbones ball joint holes were made bigger as per the BTCC ones;

you can see the special rose joint in the picture that came off the BTCC car so I cut up some old bottom ball joints in order to make my own.

these will be welded and fitted over the weekend hopefully, and then I can put the engine in and finish the mounts off.

Why not just use some mounts like I had made which would utilise standard mount points? They are just as light. I do think I have a contact who has 306 btcc bits in a barn or something as he was offering me carbon stuff from them and a radiator or something not long ago (although I am sure with your other btcc car you've accumulated contacts)

Yeah could have done but just did it this way as thats how it is on the BTCC car?!

Any info on the BTCC stuff would be good, I have a few contacts but very few spares. Carbon bits for this car would be good, pm me detail if you want?

cheersThumbs up

Post #519
thanks for the positive commentsSmile

Between Christmas and new year I have took the time to get a great deal done with the car, mainly the wiring!

out has gone all the car original wiring and fuse boxes etc!

here the big heap which does wiegh a few kgs!

so now the car has totally been re-wired from scratch front to rear, with only the standard engine harness staying, though that was trimmed down as much as possible! Its was no way an easy task but glad its been done! Now only the very basics that are needed are left in the car.

A dash from a kit car mag has been used with has rev counter, oil temp, water temp, 3 shift lights, speedo, fuel gauge and high temp warnings, as well as lap timers, yet was very cheap and no where near the cost of a stack dash!

switches that remain are,
headlights, indicators, rear fog/high vis light and wipers around the dash
ignition, fuel pump and starter in the centre dash. the brake bias valve and electric kill switch are also in the centre dash.

As you can see I have used standard 306 switches as I have loads of these and they power up through relays in where the upper glove box once was. plenty of carbon fibre was used to mount everything and blank holes off!

car is all fully re-wired and does now run again!

electric cut off mounted in the wiper trim, the second hole is for the fire extingisher which I will be buying very soon.

then some minor jobs where to drill the bonnet pins and the tailgate these were a pain as to where they has to go and the angle they were at! but it all worked in the end.
