I would like to change mine plastic inlet manifold on 1.8 16V engine with the metal one. Is there a possibility to swap inlet manifold from GTI to 1.8 16V engine? Will it fit?

I saw on forum inlet manifold swaping from GTI to XSI
http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=64213&page=last

I just want to know if it is possible to do it on 1.8 16 engine (XU7JP4)

yes, it has been discussed many a time, what you need to search for is fitting to an XS (later 306 XS's were 1.8 16v instead of the earlier 1.6 8v)

i have just done this to my xsi.

I didn't cut and extend the wires though i just cut the tape back abit in the loom, pulled the sensor wires out abit and taped it all back up again. Used the xsi map sensor to. Also using the gti airbox and top rad hose.

Runs very well. pulls alot better from 4krpm and sounds amazing...

Makes you wonder why pug wouldnt fit it as standard if it increases performance? Sometimes more noise makes it feel faster

Ted, did you use throttle body from XSI or you swaped that too from GTI?

What about fuel pressure regulator, fuel rail and injectors?

It will be grate if you have some pictures to show.

Well common sense should answer that one.

I used everything from the gti - fuel rail, injectors, FPR, throttle body. I'm sure someone else on here has put the manifold on a 1.8 to tell you what its like etc

I expect that someone already done it before since the inlet manifold on 2.0 XSI is the same as the one on 1.8 16V.

Here are some pictures.

What is your experience with fuel consumption after swapping GTI inlet manifold? Did it remain the same or maybe it is increased?
And final question, did ECU made any kind of problems or just worked perfectly right from the start with new manifold?

i haven't been able to test the fuel consumption as i just haven't done the miles. In the few , miles that i have done, 30ish, i haven't noticed any difference.

The ecu light comes on when i am at a constant RPM (i.e when cruising along) and goes off when the revs change. I'm guessing this is an air leak though as i don't currently have the throttle body gasket on (weekend joCool

Pic of my engine bay attached. Just needs a tidy up..

What is the price of new GTI inlet manifold?

Does it come with a gasket?

Can anybody tell me where can I buy a second hand GTI manifold? I mean beside e-bay. What can you suggest?

I am not from UK but I have a good friend in UK who could assist me and purchase for me.

new i have no idea. Ebay or on this forum is the best place to find them. Top price for manifold, TB, injectors etc. (i.e everything you need) would be £100ish.

Thanks Ted. I will try to do that. But of course I must check first if this conversion is possible.

I have been there and my experience was that the biggest benefit comes from swapping the exhaust manifold which sounds great and made my 1.8 quicker with no ill effects. The inlet manifold made little difference but it ran horribly rich with 6 injectors and much better with the 1.8 injectors. I went on to 6 cams-for which you need See SNEAKY EDIT- and found there was insufficient benefit to make it worthwhile as the lower rev limit on the 1.8 ECU prevented the development of the potential power at the top end of the range.
In short exhaust manifold a guaranteed benefit.
inlet manifold-great for show-not much go.
Cams, need a re-map or a 6 ECU-neither of which is easy.

SNEAKY EDIT> 6 cam pulleys-it's the 1.8 ones which don't work!

not surprised you found it ran rich with the gti6 injectors, they are huge compared to the originals and the ecu has no way of telling you have done this.

I've done the exhaustmanifold + exhaustsystem on mine and this makes a remarkable difference from standard.

Can't be arsed with the other parts anymore Razz
Maybe, one day, a complete rebuild.., just maybe...

the downpipe would be shorter as the 6 fannymold is a fair bit bigger than that cast iron lump of shit on the back of the 1.8

you need the complete exhaustsystem + need to reroute the coolant hose on the back of the block and the heatshield or loads of heatwrap

a few pics of when I did mine are to be found in my topic: 306 Francorchamps
