Right i'm bored so i've decided to start a thread on my trackcar, which also might help stop the amount of PM's i get about it too Laugh

I bought it in December 2005 with the idea of kepping it as a cheap track car. It had done 100k miles with no tax or MOT - 1.6 engine. The engine pulled strong and didn't smoke at all which was quite surprising.

I instantly set about changing all the bushes/mounts throughout the car, and stripped the interior. Then went in some cheap bucket seats and an OMP 10pt cage, with the only other mod being gti6 brakes.

I did a couple of trackdays like that gradually changing other things like suspension, rad etc.

The idea was to leave the engine alone until it went bang, but an engine came up cheap so i had to have it.

So in went the GTI6 engine, keeping the 1.6 gearbox.

Next on the list were 309GTI wishbones and driveshafts to give a little bit of camber on the front. I also put a 309GTI rear beam on to.

That's pretty much how it stayed for a while, with a few bits added here and there, such as fibreglass boot and bonnet, polycarb windows, and wide wheels.

Recently it's been developing a fair bit quicker. It now has a KAZZ LSD, 23mm torsion bars, 25mm rear ARB, Bilstein tarmac GRP-N coilovers. I've also stripped the dash completely and made my own instrument binacle. Extra bracing was put onto the cage along with harness bars, and better seats were fitted.

I'm now into the next stage of changes which include new wheels/brakes/ECU/throttle bodies/fuel system/rosejointed wishbones and eccentric top mounts.

Throttle bodies test fitted:

Wheels on:

Brembos fitted:

The wishbones/top mounts and GTI6 hubs have all been fitted too. Also a pair of ZX trailing arms have been fitted to give 0 toe in on the rear and -1 degree of camber on the rear.

I've been crap at taking pics throughout the build but as i find some i'll sling them up. As it stands the only things that are still original 205 is the body shell/chassis and the gearbox Laugh

Looks mint Sean just remember to take all the stuff off the roof a, you'll lose it/damage it when it falls off. b, It's extra weight c, looks naff.

So have you RR'ing it before during and after this drastic work regime from start to fruistion?

That's a good project. Nice to see someone has done it themselves.

I have two questions as i'm going to be doing this soon.
1. How do you find the 1.6 box? Have you had any reliability issues with it?

2. Where did you get that water pipe adapter for the top rad hose or have you fabricated that yourself?

One of them Matt, other one will be off tomorrow Whistle

It's been RR'd once a while back:
Flywheel = 188.8
Wheel = 147
Transmission loss = 22%
Torque = 141.5

Carl - it's actually pretty straight forward. Might need to batter the seem on the exhaust tunnel, and i used a cut down gti6 decat and mounted up to my exhaust.

Ryangti6 - The box that was in the car when i bought it had a crunch into 3rd, i replaced that with a 2nd hand one for £40 and not had a single problem with it since. The hose adapter was made up by 205parts, which allows you to use the standard 205 take off. They've just designed and made them and selling them through 205gtidrivers.

I will be, not sure if i'll do that now, or after i've got the bodies running and megasquirt on it and mapped. That's the bit i'm not looking forward too, but it should be fine.

What's the benefit of the GTI6 hubs?

Have you driven an Mi 205? Wondering how different they are to a 6 powered one.

GTI6 hubs are lighter than 205/309 ones....i've been out in mi16 cars and although they're similar they just don't have the torque of the 6 lump.

It's getting tidier but still looks like a shed i guess. The new wheels have helped a shit load though. Once it's running on the bodies i'll be sorting the inside out and all that wiring Sad
