Hi, I got a phase 1 (I think) P-reg gti-6. It's the one where the headlight and the front indicator are seperate units. And the spot lights in the bumper are rectangle instead of round.
Anyhoo......... I would like to put a newer looking front end on it. The one where the headlight and the indicators are all in one, and the bumpers got the round spots in it. For this to work, will i need:
The front bumper.
The bonnet?
The grille?
Headlights.
And more importantly...... Will it go on?

i think there will be some diferences as the p1 has not got the remote headligh adjusters. but also the wings are a slightly different shape and some modifications are needed to the framework i believe

there is a FAQ about rewiring the ph1 lights to ph2s, the parts you need are

bonet
badge
grill
bumper
fogs
headlights
slam panel
bonet release cable
rivets (for wing, ph1 bolts will fowl hydrolic lifters)

standard ph1 is the way mate.
If you want a ph2/3 front end then buy one, as said ph1s are getting rare. you will devalue your car by doing the swap IMO.
If you have made up your mind then do it how you suggested because any other way involves cutting bits of your car away and as shown above they are a poor fit.
Just but new standard ph1 headlights and indicators if your not happy with there appearance as older ones do tend to lose there sparkle a bit.

Not a fan tbh, the fact the lamps and the bonnet don't line up puts me off, ALOT.

But each to their own.

Maybe if you fill up the gap and then repaint the bonnet, can get a wonderful front end.
Have any more pics to see better how big is the gap?

The end part of the inner wing needs chopping off to make room for the deeper fitting headlights - about 2 inches if i remember correctly. I converted my Phase1 to Phase 2 and the novelty wore off after a couple of months as you see hundreds of hdi cars on the road. Wish i had left it alone to be honest. Phase 1s have a more "classic" look, and P2/3 look more current IMO. Just look at the 306 maxi with P1 lights. looks so right. I drive a phase 2 by the way! would love a P1 again.
