Another "nev" thread im afraid Smile

I noticed something the other day I havent seen in a while

When I first got my car, when cold the speedo would "tick" around certain speeds. Instead of a smooth sweep, it jumped as you accelerated. It only seemed to happen around 60 mph before

It started happening again from time to time last week from 0-40.

Theres no difference in the performance, and everyhting still sounds fine Smile

Im guessing that the sensor it gets the speed from is needing a clean, but where is that?

The speedo sensor is driven by a small plastic cog, this has prob lost a tooth. If not new sensor.

Yeah, that's it.

The speedometer drive housing is bolted onto the offside of the diff casing. The large drive log locates into the output shaft on the diff and drives the control pinion which locates into the bottom of the sensor.

The sensor and control pinion can be inspected and replaced with minimal fuss, only requiring the gearbox to be drained. There is a single bolt that holds the sensor into the housing and the control pinion should come out with it.

You need to remove the driveshaft and speedometer housing to access the drive cog though.

According to servicebox it is called a 'Tachometer Screw'. There are 2 part numbers listed:

2643 04 19 DTS
2643 02 22 DTS

Both are priced around £5

I very much doubt that you will get one on Ebay Thumbs up
