This is probably the easist yetBig grin

It really is simple,

The track rod ends basicaly are the bit between the hub assembly and the steering rack.
They have a pivit system on them and these can wear causing really bad feel for the road.
They are not expensive at all.

I would suggest changing these at the same time as lowering the car, makes a substantial differnce.

Both side cost £14
They are the same across the 306 range

First up you need to loosen this nut, Its a 16mm and is pretty tight

Once that top nut is loose, Before you remove it all the way.

Loosen the lock nut, Its a 19mm spanner

Next remove the nut at the top and tap the bolt with a hammer and it should fall through,

Holding the Track ROD still, unwind the track rod end counting the amount of turns it takes, They can be stiff to start with

Try to keep the ROD in the same place throughout

Mine took 21 per side, but it could be anything.
You are trying to get the same posistion as near as damn it.

You will need to get it tracked regardless, but as close as you can so you can drive to the tracking centre.

Once on tighten up the lock nut and yer done,

Next up get it tracked.

Tracking should cost around £20
If you can find a laser Tracking system that the one you want.

It should be around +2 -1.

just 1 thing, there are flats on the end of the rack rod that you can use a spanner on if you don't fancy using maul grips Wink

nice guide. Be warned tho, if you've got a high milage 306 (like mine where everything is seized), the track rod end will possibly incredibly hard to undo, but its possibly.

Made a massive difference to the way mine drove and got rid of a vibration under braking i had.

one thing that i found that helped getting the top nut on and off was jacking the wishone up Yes

when i took one nut off it actually snapped it off the ball joint lower down and i ended up having to hacksaw it off on the thread to drop the ball joint out. was shitting it at first and then thought of the hacksaw.

does wonders for the steering and feel though, did mine at 56000 and had all 4 wheels tracked afterwards ... WOW, it turns in so much sharper now and the feel is better than ever (although i put some of that down to the new wishbones and bushes as well) Big grin
