Well mine Snapped this morning, got in the car, clutch wouldnt move so i stamped on the pedal and the ratchet gave way..

So i went and bought me a newe one £22

Its not an easy task and not for the faint hearted, so here goes trying to explain how to do it..

Ingrediants:
1, New clutch cable, 1 gullable mate or unwise Dad.
2 hours of time, and as many coffee's you can drink in that time.
And half a metre of Para cord or string

1, Jack up car

2, Remove the gear box end part of the cable, Pull away and up

3, Underneath the car, pull the cable down to the ground and unclip from Subframe

4, Back inside the car, Press the clutch pedal all the way in, this should pull the cable though the bulhead abit, enough to dissengage the clip.

5, Tricky bit this, Tie some Para cord or DECENT parcel string around the white clip, and attach the other end to the accelerator pedal,

6, Go put the kettle on you will need a coffee

7, Back under the car, pull the cable down from the bulkhead, this is easier said than done as the Aircon pipes and fuel pipes are in the way, SO

8, Inside the drivers side arch there is a little plastic rivit, which is down and right of the water realase hole. Just push gently, and it will allow some movement in the air con pipes

9, Pull the cable free, You will need someone to "guide" the white clip down the hole, as its a tight fit It may need some slight persusion with a pry bar, to get the pipes outta the way

10, So now you should have a cable dangling down with some string attached,

11, Attach new Clutch cable to string, Drink coffee and admire new cuts, grazes and Bruises.

12, THIS IS A B*TCH!!!! get your helper to take the tension up on the string, you will need to feed it through by hand,
NOW the only way i found to do this was blind, reach up and find the white clip, follow the string and you will be able to find the hole it needs to go up, the cable wont sit in the right postion to go through on its own, so you will need to wiggle it and guide it till while yer mate keeps the tension.

13, The rest is easy just put it all back together



Its quite surprising just how much difference a new cable makes, Even though the old one didnt look to bad, the ratchet was jaming and eventualy went...

Cheers for the 'How to' Welly, replaced mine this morning, and jeez, what a difference it makes!! Only had the car two weeks and the clutch was the only thing I didn't like about the car, but now all is well.

yea mine snapped, absolute b*tch to do. Garage had it for three days (largely due to the cable having to come from somewhere in essex). Well done if you done it without the assistance of a garage.

He was under the impession it should be pretty easy

Yep, doing a Rallye clutch cable is much easier than doing a '6' due to the lack of air-con and pipes in the Rallye.

Glad I have a newish cable on mine done by the last owner... this would have killed me having to do this with the clutch change...

Not always... even when my clutch was mega fooked the cable is only a few months old and the pedal action was not too heavy...

It's lighter now, but it's got a new clutch in and I lubed all the moving parts.
