Hi

Inspired recently by people here and on FB, I have decided to build a 306 Maxi Kitcar-like 306.

I don't know where the voyage will end but it has started. I bought a Rallye.

My intention is that the car will be close to real one, with perhaps some differences:

- 2.2L or possibly slightly more swept volume for torque
- Possibly coilovers at the rear though I am leaning back towards a proper wide beam at present
- I would like Kevlar bodywork and use of carbon and kevlar where possible - I have friends who do layup and pre-prep and have done stuff for other cars I have/have had
- I intend to use the sequential transmission by Beckert
- I don't intend for it to be a slavish copy or pretend to be a real one
- But I want to be a modern but close expression of a real one with some new options that didn't exist at the time

I would welcome any and all (polite!) advice and one question: is it bad to sacrifice a T-reg Rallye to build this beast?

Should I find a shell and give the Rallye a reprieve?

If not, then would anyone like all the parts inside and out from the Rallye in return for stripping it and a small £££ charge?

Tell me what you think please? All advice welcome.

Hi Andrew
Good luck with the build mucker …
Ive had mine 9 years and bought it for £1k but spent silly money getting it to this stage now and sadly more money to spend over the next 18months Thumbs up

If i was doing it all over again i would buy a shell for sure and if possible one stripped with a welded in cage Thumbs up

Good luck and i hope you know what sort of money your letting yourself in for Crazy

Sadly most items are double if not 3x what it use to be 3-4 years ago and getting rare if you want the special bits like mk1 quick racks etc

I wonder if anyone knows where I would go to look for a no sunroof 2 door shell?

Maybe buy a base model 306 cheap? Strip it and sell all parts. Might get more from selling parts than what you payed for the car…

I stand corrected! Of course what I should say is a three door hatchback. I would also want one without a sunroof. Any idea where such things might be available? Does anyone have one?

There's a chap on one of the Facebook pages that breaks 306's and scraps the shells. He's got a 3door China Blue XS and a 3door Blaze GTi-6 at the moment.

Also, if you do go down the route of stripping the Rallye and want someone to do it/help for the offer of cheap bits I'm in and not too far from you Thumbs up

Thanks to everyone for advice.

I’m closing in on a few different shell options.

Guess I will have to think about preparing and selling the Rallye. Ho-hum

Nice, another South East member :cool Looking forward to another project thread, good work.

As others have said i would keep the Rallye and sell it on if you don't need it, they are making good money right now and that can be put towards your project.

Definitely going to take your advice. I collected my Rallye today from the previous owner who has cherished it for 12 years. When I realised how much love had gone into the car, I realised it would be sacrilege to reduce the number of very original Rallyes by one.
