So, started up this morning after a long while sitting, all good until warmed up when a knock could be heard, seems to be in the cambelt area, not from the block.
Doesn’t get louder with revs…

Any ideas?
The cambelt is due to be changed, does anyone know of someone capable near Bishops Stortford area to do this?
I went to Norfolk previously for a change by one of the members on here.

My Xsara VTS did something very similar after being stood for a while whilst I located a radiator for it. Belt had gone slack.

Easy enough to take the cover off and check the tension. Wouldn't drive it until you have checked, and if it's loose, don't drive it at all.

If its not too far for you, I can highly recommend a place in Dartford that has been doing my Xsara cambelt changes and servicing for over 15 years.

Well, I’ve just been quoted £690 to change belt and pulleys….
I had already driven her as this only became audible when warmed up fully…..

I’ll take a look at the weekend re the belt slack before starting up again.👍

depends on their hourly labour rates, you're not far from london and labour rates around there can be pretty mental.

its also a 6 hour or so job on autodata from memory.

I know a lad at Thurston engineering in Ongar that knows these engines, probably half an hour from you, Baz may know someone or take it on himself.
