Hi all,

My just restored GTI was doing well last Friday. This morning, I started the car: waited until fuel was primed, turned key over, engine starts. After approx. 3 minutes on idle, the engine stopped. I started again, a little bit more difficult, but it ran... for approx. 30 seconds.

As I suspect a fuel issue, I opened the fuel cap and it seemed there was quite a vacuum... can this be the cause of cutting out? If so, can someone point me in the right direction to search for the cause?

Many thanks in advance!

When idling, was it at the correct revs?

Yes. That was all good. It just stops as if you turn off ignition...

Leave the cap off? if it doesnt stop i would say you have a blocked tank breather.

Going to try that for sure. If it is the breather, is that something that can be fixed easily?
