I've been measuring my crank and piston rings today to make sure everything's ready to be put back together when I get the head back.

I've bought Goetze rings (part 08-306800-00) for a Vauxhall C20LET engine as these have been widely used by others for the J4RS engine.

I'm getting 0.5mm on the top ring and 0.45 on the second/middle ring. This is pushing the upper range of what Haynes suggests and I think I've read on here that 0.3-0.35 is typical?

I think that's the reality of it. I'm sure this car hates me. The block in question has 80K on it and was measured with a dial bore guage, appeared to be good but clearly wasn't thorough enough with the measurements! Shame, it's been decked and honed already Thumbs down

Looks like I'm back to the original block and an overbore then. FFS Wink

What pistons will you be going for with the oversize bore?

Found these ones from Mahle. The 06xxxx are the corresponding Peugeot part number. The first oversize is NLA from Peugeot but in any case, they're twice the price of the Mahle items.

Cheers for that, may have to get a set if my suspicions are true on one of my engines.
I thought they'd be more expensive than that to be honest.

Even better price from here!

I've been talking to them and they've confirmed they can be ordered and that they're suitable for the XU10J4RS

I've ordered 4 @ £275.92 shipped to the UK.

Impact on compression with larger bores AND valve cutouts? Head will have a small amount taken off (currently at 136.91) and block decked. There's also the argument of mapping or not with cams Dunno
