I am going with Heater Matrix but would like to see what you think.

Car went in for MOT today, all was well and it passed.

Picked it up and as soon as I turned the car over I knew something was up, just didn't sound right and started to hunt and idle incorrectly, which after 1 minute sorted itself out. Then I smelt a horrible smell through the vents, popped the bonnet whilst engine still running and could see smoke coming from the area of the exhaust manifold. Like something was dropping on it and causing the smoke. MOT tester thought possibly an oil leak, however the smell was disgusting, never smelt anything so bad, this continued all the way home.

No wet patch in passenger foot well, advice, does it sound like the Matrix, or what else could be the culprit?

Cheers

The smoke is definitely coming from that area behind the engine like something is falling on a very hot manifold. I've never smelt something so horrible, so it could be the pipes that are around there

Did the MOT guys leave anything in the engine bay that is burning on the manifold?

How is the coolant level? Can be a small leak at the rear bottom of the engine.

I'd say matrix. Mot guys have a habit of leaving cars running on test, so may have blown something as its got so hot
