Hi

I've been slowly building a 1.8 Xsi track car, it currently has the alloy block with a gti6 head and cams, gti exhaust manifold, stock intake manifold cut for gsxr1000 itb's. Running with a microsquirt.

The car is pretty quick hasn't been dynoed yet but it can keep up with a clio 172.

Still i feel like especially after the itb, it now needs more cam.

I know the gti6 has piston clearance issues with taller cams, but how about the 1.8 with stock pistons? a bit more room maybe?

Also has anyone used catcams 4903156 282ยบ with 10mm lift ?

Good insight welcomed regarding cam choices
thanks

Thanks Jeffers I read it.

Guess nothing better than taking head off and test/measure.

the 205 mob should have a bit more info about it since the xu7 16v has the same pistons as the 1.9 mi16 I'm lead to

believe?!?

no, they are quite different, xu7 has quite a long rod at 150mm, small dish in the piston, I don't recall the crown height but could easily work it out.

xu9j4 has a 143mm rod and 37.1 crown height and quite large valve reliefs.

According to Sandy from the 205 forum in case someone like me needs details about this very common engine

XU7JP4:

Block height from crank centre line 224.5mm

Stroke 81.4mm

Bore 83.0mm

Rod length centre to centre 150.5mm

Big end journal diameter 45mm

Small end diameter 22mm (Interference fit)

Piston crown height from pin centre 33.3mm

Pistons rise flush with deck at TDC

Piston crown total volume (dish and cutouts) ~ 2.0cc

Gasket volume (1.4mm x 84mm dia) ~ 7.8cc

Chamber volume standard ~ 37.2cc

Chamber volume with 0.25mm skim (maximum practical) ~ 36.0cc

Standard CR 10.4:1

Skimmed CR 10.6:1

Inlet valve cutout 2.5mm max lift at TDC (allowing 1.5mm clearance)

Exhaust valve cutout 2.0mm max lift at TDC (allowing 1.5mm clearance)

Inlet valve diameter 34.6mm

Exhaust valve diameter 29.6mm
