Hi Guys,

Had the dash out for some welding work that was right behind the insulation, been chipping away at that over the last couple months and today i've finally got the dash back in place.

Id thought i had gotten everything plugged back in, but im not so sure now!

i pulled the plugs and let it crank for a little bit to build some oil pressure as the car hasnt ran now for about 3 months. cranked over great, the fuel pump stayed on for quite a while which i thought was a bit weird. put the plugs and coils back in, and went to actually fire it up, and it wont start!

i sprayed some brake cleaner into the intake to see if it was just out of fuel, but still nothing.

i then noticed that have no milage showing on the clocks, no fuel gauge and no oil level when the key is turned....
both of the plugs where all the way in on the back of the clocks, so i dont think its those.

under the driver side of the dash i could only find a white plug to plug in (the 4 plugs Just behind fuses), currently the other 3 plugs are empty (Red, Grey and Black??) i cant remember if there were more plugged in, but im sure i remember not all of them had plugs in.

am I supposed to have more plugs there?!
cant see any unless they've tucked themselves under the carpet/insulation?

or should i be looking at something else? Dunno

5A fuse in the interior fuse box.

I'm guessing that your interior lights don't work either?

Yep, it's been out of the car the entire 3 months!

An I right in that the fuse box should only have that one white plug then??

If the interior light doesn't work (as I suspect it won't) neither will the immobiliser or the mileage display as they all run off the same 5A fuse.

brilliant, in my haste i had not plugged that fuse back in! I'm running my dashcam through a fuse spitter. which just so happens to be that fuse...

turned the key and she fired right up, running great!

Not had much of a chance to look at much else other than that, but my central locking/interior lights still dont work... which is a bit weird.

Any ideas?

Cheers guys,
Alex

Alright then... More weirdness, my wipers won't work on full speed?? Wtf
My door locks work via the key in the lock but not the IR button

Everything else I've tested seems to work fine.
Not really looked at much as I've been Ill, just been mindlessly re-assembling. but all the fuses seem alright...

Don't know if that's a MOT failure? Might be nice to get the ol girl back on the road.

The fact the it starts the car makes me think that's not required?
Am I wrong?

Also the other weird electrical Gremlins I'm having are not making me the most confident...

Anybody seen that before with the wipers? Every speed except fastest works, fastest just stops then dead on the windscreen wherever they are

dont you put that evil on me!!

*sigh* any ideas what i would be even looking for???
this is my idea of hell tbh.

i've checked all the electrical connectors i remember, and can see from beneith the dash, does anyone know if these circuits all share a plug somewhere or???

worst part about it is whatever muppet installed the alarm on my car they put it on the INSIDE of the dash supports, which means i cannot actually fully remove the dash from the car, i can get it about a foot or 2 away from the firewall. Angry

Apologies,

Completely missed the post where you'd sorted the fuse and the car was running...assume the dash is now working ok?

Do the wipers work ok on auto? If you spray the sensor do they speed up/slow down? I don't suppose you've another wiper stalk you could use to check that it's not the stalk that's died? The key battery might have gone flat and may need the IR bit recoding. I know you can program that from the car (some ignition and button pressing sequence)

What issues are you still having aside from those two?

Ah, no worries!!

er, its a Rallye so it doesnt have "Auto"? at least i didnt think it did....
i do not have another wiper stalk to test with.

I'll pop out and have another fiddle in a bit, still feeling crappy Thumbs down

as a summary of my current issues:

Wipers:

EDIT: FIXED!! just some crust in the connector weirdly enough, got a wirebrush deep inside there and they work great now!

Interitor lights:
Do not work. they dont work while switched to "doors open" or "constant on, key in or out.

Central locking:
IR Key fob does not unlock the door. (the little light flashes on the key, so faiiirrrrlly sure they key battery is fine)

Everything else i have tested seeeeeemss alright. radio, engine. will test the exterior lights in a bit

The key starting the car and locking the doors are two different operations.
Starting the car relies on the immobiliser part working (which it obviously does), however the locking via the fob just needs reprogramming as Ben says.
I believe we have the instructions for this in the FAQ.

Ah ok. sounds reasonable!
Will look into getting the key programmed in tomorrow then!

hopefully the interior lights not working doesn't mean that whole "box" on the roof is totally dead

Just a small update to this, It was a plug under the dash!!

Was missing the blue plug behind the fusebox, it got hidden under the insulation!!
was looking a a pic i had taken, mid dash removal and spotted it in the corner of one.

dug it out, and plugged it back in and everything is working once again.

Got it MOT'd this saturday and shes back on the road! Big grin
