That's what I was thinking about after opening this thread. Could be true. But I can imagine it also working on a hot surface. Possible to try out on a cooktop.

this stuff does seem pretty cool, doubt it would be great for a manifold though, as i believe it gets quite brittle after a while and would probably disintegrate with all the vibration from the engine.

It's not really any different from intumescent paint. No good for heat sheilding as it has to burning already to work, it's used to hold back fire from spreading for a while.
406's already use it on the bulkhead and tunnel interestingly.

Don't ask how I found that out.
