Are you all out enjoying the sun?
It’s quiet on here, I keep seeing tumbleweed rolling across my screen!
Enjoy the weather there anyway, we’ve got a few more weeks of winter before endless months of 35-45c days come along!

It's always quiet on here now. So many people have sold up and moved on. Back in the day it was usual to see dozens of members logging on at evenings and weekends. Now you can often be the only one. Changed days eh?

Too true. That becomes evident when you've been driving around in a modern performance car then step back into the 6 or rallye....I do love them but they also feel very tired and dated now.

Well since being in Aus (yes I’m actually a Pom) I’ve had 2 Ford Falcons-4ltr 6 cylinders and a Holden Commodore 3.8 V6, fair enough not V8s or turbocharged 6 cylinders or supercharged V6s but they’re still quick modern cars. Yet every time I drive my 306 Gti I grin from ear to ear, there’s just something about that little red car that I just love!
I suppose the fact that I paid $500Aus for it has something to do with it too Thumbs up

What are you doing for parts over there? Can you get service parts ok or do you need to order them from Europe? What's the postage like to Aus from UK?

There’s a fairly decent Halfords type of place called SuperCheap Auto, I’ve ordered a couple of bits off there which price wise are quite reasonable but sometimes you have to wait for the parts from their supplier but again it’s not too bad when you realise just how far items have to come! There’s a Peugeot dealer that I ordered some drop links from and they got them within 4 days which I was quite pleased with too. eBay is pretty good for parts, postage from the UK isn’t too bad depending on the service, I ordered some gear linkages from Miles and the postage was the same price as the linkages but that was for 3 day service which I didn’t mind paying.
I better try getting back to sleep, it’s 03:40 here and I’m still wide awake Thumbs down

Afternoon Chaps Cool This is my first post for f**king ages!! Where is everyone... decent question that, seems to be either facebook or as stated above, sold up and moved on. Probably a sensible thing to have done.

I've still got a Rallye sat in the garage, its done 2000 miles in the last two years and is in need of some general maintenance such as full service, swap tyres, wash and mop, finish off with a hoover out Smoke but I cant be arsed.

Keep thinking about flogging the old girl as when you work out tax and insurance costs per year vs appreciation the two cancel each other out really. I'd like to get some bodies on it and have the engine out for a cleanup which might happen when I've finished this house, or may not Dunno

Nice to see that there are still a few members kicking about though, even you Ratboy LOL

Back under my rock for a few years now Thumbs up

Speak for yourself. My Rallye still feels awesome no matter what else I've been driving. And it hasn't got any electronic nastiness such as CANBUS to s**t itself and write the car off for cost of replacement. And look at how silly prices for old cars are now - Mk2 Golf price range £3K to £10K in some recent classics mag I read the other day? The Porker 911 that was £10K in 2008 is over £40K now. Even the old Audi Quattro turbo 1980s Ashes to Ashes shape car is close to £20K now even though Audi makes no parts for them - up from around £9K 10 years ago. WTF? Try driving a new BMW - some guy on Detailing World had a water pump fail and it was £430 from the dealer - for the part only, not labour. People are having a laugh - the 306 is one of the great performance bargains.

Old cars are cool now, and lets face it they are not making any more of them. And 306s aren't expensive to maintain compared to other stuff.

Even here in Aus European cars are going up in value, I spoke to another Pom a couple of months ago who’d bought a 205 gti 1.9 for $13000 around £6500 and shipped it to WA from the eastern states. I’ve seen a couple of gti6s for sale at around £2000-£3000, I bought mine for £250 😂🤣😂🤣
