On the inside of the cap of the brake fluid reservoir there is a black thing that can spin with mesh across it I guess its a filter.

Does this come out? I have tried to get it out with no luck and don't want to force it but seems a little difficult to check the fluid level with it in...

Is it required at all? I've taken mine out a few times now so is a bit battered as it's a pain to get out

I've just changed the fluid so its pretty clear within the reservoir so makes it kinda hard to tell looking through the side of the reservoir to see the level... I can't imagine its that important, I guess if its not there don't drop anything into the reservoir...

As above, marks on the side. With a clean exterior the level is pretty easy to check. It’s normally obvious when filling as you see it reach the flat surface and the air rushes to the spout. Smile

Best not remove it its just gets knackered
Best to give the reservoir a wipe and shine a tourch through it
