Hi there, and welcome to the advert for my 1997 Phase 2 306 GTi 6 in Nile Blue. From what I can gather this is one of the earliest Phase 2 GTi's made, not sure if that makes it any rarer but a nice bit of useless info nonetheless!

DESCRIPTION UPDATED JUNE 2018:
Have owned this car since February 2014, and in that time it's had a fair bit done to it. The previous owner gave me a whole stack of history going back to 2000, including MOTs, invoices for services, parts etc. Cambelt and water pump both changed earlier this year. Service history goes up to 2016, at which point it failed an MOT on a number of electrical faults and I had to get a new car for commuting to work. My housemate, who isn't a mechanic but is a pretty competent mechanical engineer, set to work getting it back on the road and fixed it's various issues (dodgy wiring behind a cracked bumper, all now replaced). He annoyingly hasn't kept receipts for a lot of the parts he's bought and fitted, but has given me a list of what's been done in the last year:

- New brake discs and pads all round
- Front calipers rebuilt
- Oil change, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter
- New cat back exhaust (standard)
- New catalytic converter
- New anti roll bar links
- New front wishbone bushes
- Alpine motorised flip front tape stereo with mp3 aux in (adapted to work with steering controls)
- Replacement front door speakers
- New front fog lights
- Pressed license plates
- Brake fluid replaced
- New Toyo Proxes tyres on front, new tyres on rear but can't remember the brand
- Replacement seat cover for worn driver's bolster.
- New cambelt and water pump.

UPDATE #2 AUGUST 2020:
Car has now had the following things done:

- New cylinder head and head gasket to stop the usual engine tap.
- Sanding down and repainting of roof due to lacquer peel.
- New Lambda Sensor.

So as far as I know, everything now works as it should with the exception of the A/C. Just had a new MOT, so it'll be sold with a full year's ticket. Pictures available upon request. Available for collection from Southampton, please email me for more info. Smile
Price: £2200 ONO.

I bought the car from this forum, see link to previous thread: http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=158915

Please note that this thread states the belt was last done in 2005, but I do have receipts from it being done in 2011.

I’d suggest that the cambelt needs doing again sharpish if it’s nearly 7 years old ?
If you need it doing let me know I can help you out to help with the sale

Yes, I wouldn't want to push the boundaries on something like that. My car had Pug dealer head overhaul after losing a cambelt in 2005 (6 years and 50K miles). Last time I changed it the 4-year old OE water pump was leaking too.

Will make the most of the Black Friday sales and get a kit for it, then check the water pump while I'm at it. Smile

No it isn't. But to quote you from way way back:

"I'd use any water pump but make sure you use a metal gasket Yes it will only be on for 30k so will last no problem till your next belt kit change Thumbs up

Oe pumps are usually very pricey"

Only thing I'm not sure of is the metal gasket, but opinions are split on that one anyway Thumbs up

My leaking waterpump was OE 4 years/about 15K miles and I also change each time the cam belt is done.

So even paying 85 quid for an OE water pump does not guarantee it will last without leaking.

ISTR there are two types of OE water pump. The proper one and another cheaper one (the parts guy called it a 'substitute part' ) for cars more than 5 years old. I got the more expensive one.

ECP has water pumps for about £35, not OE but if I'm honest I don't want to spend masses on parts when I am ultimately trying to sell the car!

Timing belt kit is now with me, and will likely be fitted in the next few weeks. If there's any interest, I'll look at getting it through an MOT in the New Year. Give me a shout if you'd like pictures or more info about anything. Smile

Bump: This is still for sale, now has had the cambelt and water pump replaced as well as the driver's seat cover replaced with an undamaged one. Has also had some perished fuel hoses replaced, as well as a few other little jobs. Will have a fresh MOT in the next few days.

Please note, the asking price will go up to reflect the fresh MOT and extra work done. Will give it a wash and get a new advert up by the end of the week, message me in the meantime for details.

Hi all, apologies for not seeing this sooner.

Yes I still have the car, it's currently sat in my friend's lockup so is off the road and under cover. Not sure what the current state of it is, but I've shot him a message and will provide a full update as soon as I have it Smile

Ok, I've just heard back from my friend as to what work has now been done. Here's what he says:

'Changed the cylinder head and head gasket so the engine doesn't tap anymore, there was some lacquer peel on the roof so I've started sanding that down for fresh paint. Once it's painted and polished I was going to stick it in for an MOT, then it shall be ready for sale. The only thing that doesn't work is the A/C.'

I'll try and remember to keep further updates coming as I get them, please drop me a message or email if you're interested.

Bump - Still for sale. PistonHeads posted an updated article and buyer's guide about GTi-6's today, so seemed like a good time to do another push!
