How would it compare to a modern btcc hatch? Clio or vxr?

VERY VERY different, its not a full works type btcc car, its essentially Group A iirc, still single throttle so limited quite a bit, only about 240bhp, the regulations were very strict and limited them a fair bit in certain areas.

the full works supertourer BTCC cars of the same era were over 300 bhp things with relocated engines sequential boxes 18" wheels tubbed arches etc.

a modern hatch would keep up in a straight line, but how it some corners with a good driver and they'll be well away.

modern BTCC cars are semi tube frame affairs with turbo engines, not quite as extreme as some of the super tourer cars but being turbo they do have a lot more torque, Aero has come a long way since then too.

It's not Carl's actual car, it's another one that raced in the same series.

I know Carl has never been that impressed by his. I've had my race car within 1.5 seconds of his in a few places and it cost a lot less than £20k to build. That said, I remember Nigel Tongue being pretty rapid in his car.

It has the history though, I would probably buy it if I could afford it! Sadly I love (hate) my own car too much to part with it to allow me the funds.

I'd say it's only really worth it if you want to go racing
