So after 5 years I decided to get another 306 GTi6 or Rallye. I've previously had Moonstone (Binned) & China (sold to ChrisD on here) GTi6's but always wanted an Astor. I was also considering a Rallye but only in White, even enquired about one on Ebay but a bit out of reach of what I wanted to spend on initial purchase.

Anyway I spotted an Astor on Ebay last Sunday, made an offer and picked up from North Wales yesterday. Details of the Ad below with all things that have been recently done to it:

Ebay Ad Clicky

This car has Had all new
discs,
pads,
callipers,
all brake pipes and hoses,
coilovers,
cambelt kit,
water pump,
full engine service,
4 new tyres (uniroyle rainsport 3)
rear axle has been stripped and greased,
205 gti wheels.
Selling due to lack of use. Bad bits. The fan doesn't kick in, it doesn't overheat when driving. A few scratches on the bodywork, nothing major, 138,000 miles. Mot until 26th October. Could do with a clean.

My brother Xav (Who's been on here) is a mechanic and went down with me and confirmed it was solid and everything seemed to check out.

On driving home the engine was solid and eager but there is a few things I'll need to look into, firstly the clutch seems to ride high so makes it interesting when moving in first especially as I've been driving Automatics recently. The 2nd is the steering seems too heavy at low speeds.

The rest I've listed below which gives an idea of current condition and the direction I'm going in:

  • Fix engine fans
  • Fit refurbed Cyclones - Cyclones fitted just need refurb
  • Raise suspension a bit - Done
  • Change exhaust back to standard with Cat
  • Fix Clutch biting point - Done
  • Fix heavy steering - Done
  • Replace and reposition air filter
  • Replace Gearknob
  • Get spare key cut and fob program
  • Refit rear view mirror - Done
  • Refit rear window wiper
  • Fix random alarm going off
  • Fix driver interior door handle trim
  • Replace or reupholster all seats
  • Change headunit
  • Investigate possible Oil Leak
  • Refit Hockey sticks
  • Fix front bumper crack
  • Fix rear bumper dent & crack
  • Dent removal and paint correction (Possible full respray)

  • I don't have a timescale as this is for the long term but I'll post updates as and when they happen and include pics.

Cheers for reading and here's a pic when I got it home and parked behind my other runabout Cool

    Just a small update,

On Monday my brother swapped his cyclones for my 205 gti wheels, while at it he noted how solid the shell was and how well maintained the brakes and rear beam was so overall I'm happy so far with my purchase.

He also has 2 spare Cyclones so I'm going to have a bash at a diy refurb and see how they come out. If I'm happy with the outcome, I'll refurb the rest myself as well.

Heres a before and after pic.

    Much better I think Cool

Wow, looks like a great buy.

It does look better on the Cyclones.

Is the top of the gear knob ok and just the leather gone or is it both that are worn?

I need a new one for mine and it's very difficult to find one in good condition.

The leather can be refurbished but sadly not sure what can be done on the top cap.

    Cheers mate.

Nah, top is worn and leather has chunks out of it so need a full replacement. Not in a great rush so biding my time until a decent one comes up.

Alright mate, didn't think you were still about as it's dead on here now.

It was Ecosse rolling day and Pitlochry as well when I stole your burger LOL

You still got the Rallye then?

Good to hear you've still got it.

So another update, I was on Holiday last week and gave my brother my Keys to do what he could while I was away.

He managed to sort a slight castor issue so the steering is feeling a lot better though I've no pics of the work done.

He also raised the rear a bit with a guesstimate that it's now approx 30-40mm lowered from standard. I'm sure you'll agree it looks a lot better Cool Heres some pics.

Been a while since I've updated this thread as the car was off the road until the start of this month.

While off the road I've had a few bits done which I've listed below:
Replaced decat with a used original Cat
Gearbox leak fixed which I originally thought was an oil leak
    Replacement clutch
Front raised slightly which has cured the heavy steering issue
    Ball joints replaced
Replaced gearknob with a brand new one I got from here

It originally failed the MOT on emissions and brake imbalances, got the brakes cleaned up and used a fuel cleaner mixed with a blast to the MOT station to get it red hot for a pass...just.

It's now getting used as a daily driver as the wife's car went back this month, I got a new job so only need it to get to the Train station and I'm buying a new house so I can save some extra cash towards that instead of another new car.

Things I need to add to the OP I've noticed since it's been back on the road. There's a judder on take off in first, seems to be hit and miss how bad it is but the whole dash shakes at its worst.
Alarm siren is goosed and caused fuse 6 to blow preventing me starting the car so will replace it or disconnect completely. The exhaust is doing my head in, it's a mongoose system and a bit loud for me especially with a 1 year old in the back. Managed to source an original back box so just need a centre to compete and fit.

Aftermarket system will be sold so if anyone interested before I add a for sale post ping me a PM.

    Cheers

Cheers mate, on my 3rd 6 so have been a member for a while.
I thought I'd fixed the pics by adding the ~original workaround posted on here, seems photobucket has fecked that up for everyone as well. Ilk sort them soon as there's not many just now.
