Hi guys,
My car won't start..
few months ago I broke down while I was giving it a bit of a hoon, the lights flickered them the engine died, all electrics still worked but the car wouldn't fire, I left it for about half an hour while I mucked around trying to figure it out, then it just started but I didn't do anything, it just started.. a couple of weeks went by with it running fine then it did it again, but this time wouldn't start at all.
I thought at the time I had blown it up, as I thought I saw white smoke out the back, but now I'm thinking the two break downs are connected...
after I thought I had blown it up, I was searching for a new engine and found a fully forged one off a member on here and had that fitted a couple of weeks ago..
and now it won't start.. hence why I think the two break downs are connected (I hope I'm making sense)
The multi function relay was changed a while ago as I was having Miss fire issues, which was sorted with changing that, it also has fuel and spark, but no voltage on the injectors. I'm running after market management and an eaton charger which was all working fine before the first breakdown.
Any one got any ideas on what it could be?
Hope I've not missed anything out of my explanation and you understand it! Lol

how many relays are on your wiring loom?

usually one for coil and injectors on an ignition switched live and a second triggered by the ecu when it sees a crank signal.

so probably a broken wire if you have spark.

The loom is the same as OE the ecu is wired directly into where the OE one was.
So uses all the normal relays.
Electrics really isn't my thing. So wouldn't have a clue where to look for a broken wire or relays tbh,
Any idea where/what colour wire or relay etc?

ah, in that case then it works very much the same, if you have spark you should have 12v at the injectors and you need to check the wiring back to the relay.

it'll be a fairly chunky white wire IIRC.

Can any one tell me exactly which white wire it would be?
I've had a look and there are a few...
assuming I'm looking at the right thing?
The multi function relay? Is that right or a different one?

at the double relay Pin 4 wire number 1210 go's to 1211(inj1) 1212(inj2) 1213(inj3) 1214(inj4)

there must be a common crimp joint in the engine loom were each injector wire splice joins wire 1210

i would remove the double relay and look for burned pins on the relay or plug first

Thumbs up

The easy way is just to run a new wire and splice it in until you can find the issue with the original.

Am I right in thinking that I will only get 12v on the injector wires for about 3seconds when switching ignition on?
Or will it be permanent 12v when ignition is on?
Had a quick look tonight and everything looks ok but my meter broke so I can't check the wires.. grrr

yes for 3-10 seconds only unless the engine turns over
the same side of the relay supplys the fuel pump, O2 sensor and TB heater Wink

I am refering to the std loom and ecu
alot will depend on who modified your loom to take the aftermarket ecu and what they have included or omitted

Ok thanks...
The loom is 99% OE, the old ecu plug was cut off and the new ecu wired in directly to OE loom, so the bit I'm looking at hasn't changed.
I going to get the meter on it again when I can, cos it's pretty simple really it's one wire to all 4 injectors so there's not a lot to go wrong surly! Assuming I get 12v from the relay, it must be the join or the wire itself... I'll run a new wire anyway so I know it's good... can't do anything till I get a new meter tho!

Ok this is weird...
I'm getting nothing from the injector wire (pin 4 green) directly out of the relay..
permanent 12v from the pump wire (white) but nothing from the switched pump wire (also white pin 5? I think) but pump runs??
How is this possible?
Didn't think a really could break in that way? Surly it works or it doesn't?

Guess I should try another relay in it?

have you looked at the relay pins and the base loom side for burn marks?
