Hi All,

I am looking into some cams to go with my throttle body setup. I have been told I can run these Newman 300s with pocketed pistons but could someone confirm if this is correct please?

http://www.newman-cams.co.uk/Newman-Cams-Peugeot-306-GTI-6-All-Race-Camshafts-PEUT300468-PH5_25197_15_3606_18911.jsp

I am slightly surprised you can run them without having to do any other head work

Cheers Thumbs up

lol.

nope, a ph2 264 degree cam is the wildest you can go.

PH4 286 degree cams need double valve springs and much deeper cutouts than you can make in a standard piston, and much more than a 10.8-1 compression ratio, Ph5 300 degree cam is a solid tappet profile.

I would suggest not listening to whoever told you they would work.

No way will they go in a standard engine with standard pistons pocketed. Also there for solid lifters only so would need head work

My engine has Newman ph2 and with the piston pockets enlarged for safe timing

Edit Welsh beat me to it

yeah, it kinda spirals once you go past the standard modified piston limitation, there is no PH3 cam, its straight into a PH4.

double valve springs £307.
Omega Pistons £400.
Good forged rods £600.

or add solid tappets at £391 and go full retard.

naah, I'm having enough trouble saving money for mapping let along the added costs of solid tappets!

286 degrees are enough for my engine.
