get where your coming from,if its not straight and solid its not going to be much use on track or lots of work to get it usable, and track is the place for really spirited driving, but if you go mad with the available mods you only end up with a gti6 shaped object, lots of 2 door dog boxes that deserve that treatment, not that many good standard ones about, kept all the standard bits off mine when it got boosted. early gti golfs and 205's went the same way, look how much an un-molested one makes now, nobody goes out on track thinking they are going to crash but. . . . . . .

Both 306 and 309 gtis have just started to climb in value by a significant amount.

I have owned a 1998 309gti from it being 2 years old but unfortunately, I decided it was a good idea to strip it, cage it and put an mi16 engine on carbs into it, not in that particular order!

I will not allow my current 6 gti reshell and full rebuild to be clouded be a track biased direction, although some of the bits ive added and modded might send it towards that. Trim and everything will be the same as a standard version, if not better and hopefully when it finally turns a wheel, it will be a valuable asset , in keeping with the amount of time and energy I have put into it!
I do not want to de value an other car I own.

Fair enough if there are loads and loads of the cars left proposed for turning into a track vehicle but not if there their numbers are diminishing !

Buy a clio instead!

I'd save your effort, more had been offered in the past ash, a friend wanted it and had his offer accepted so we set a weekend aside to pick it up, a couple of days before we were due to pick it up there was no response after several attempted calls and texts by the buyer. Messed my weekend plans up.

your right in part if your robs mate who was coming down with a trailer, who then decided he wanted to come down on a train and drive it back, the last conversation we had was its been sat for 10 months give me time to check it over, then my phone, lappy and camera went down with a bug from photo bucket, edited the mob number in ad and heard no more, paul who came to have a look, bought the car and it now lives in woking, trailered it away on sunday, hope they're happy, didnt intend to waste anybody's time get little of it free myself.
