their only black plastic! a good scrub and some back to black and i'll look brand new again,..

If the plastic is faded and grey you could clean it thoroughly and use a heatgun to carefully melt the topmost part of the surface. It is possible that there will be marks how you went with the heatgun but the plastic will be fresh again and last: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ue-1_Jk2Y0

Another option would be colourcoding it.

thinking you might be able to have the outer skin once i'm done with it?
it's still black and in great nick!
i'm moulding it to make a Carbon one and marry it up to the original internal part!
