So im looking at buying a tig, Ive been using mig for years and now would like to try tig mainly so i can start welding ali. Ive used tig before so i am not completely new to it but would like some advise on what machine to buy. It needs to be ac/dc and single phase, I have a 16amp euro socket with a dedicated feed from the fuse box so supply isnt a issue.
Ive a budget of about £1000 i dont need something out standing that has all the bells and whistles but something decent with parts back up should it come to it.

Ive been looking at these machines

R-Tech 160amp

http://www.r-techwelding.co.uk/tig-welder-240v-ac-dc-160amp/

Jasic 200p

http://www.jasic.co.uk/tig-200p-acdc-analog-welding-inverter-100-p.asp

sifweld ts200

http://www.sifweld.com/ts200ac.html

These all seem to fall into budget but have noticed some do not include a foot pedal Thumbs down

If any one has any advice or can recommend something else id be muchly appreciated.

Cheers

Stef Smile

Me personally, i would have the last one.

I was looking at this, I know it's not as good as those above but at £500 it's cracking. And has a pedal which is ideal for Aluminium welding.

I know what you mean. But for home use it reckon it'll be alright. At we have migtronic, ESAB and Butters tig sets but I reckon they would be dear. Plus they are all 3 phase.

My bad, hadn't looked that closely at the esab.

Scratch starts okay though, we tig on site with an arc welder on site if need be. Although it's not ideal. Good for the cash though.

Where's it say it's scratch start though? It looks to a button on the torch.

I've got an r-tech 260a digital AC/DC tig-

http://www.r-techwelding.co.uk/tig-welder-ac-dc-260a-digital-tig260ext/

It's a good bit if kit. It's the first tig I've owned and used so nothing to compare it too but it's done everything I've needed with ease, including teach me to tig weld! Had a minor issue with the HF start but r-tech took the machine back, repaired it and had it back to me all in 3 days.

If youre welding thin ally then the pulse feature is excellent and really makes it much easier, the foot pedal is great but it's quite difficult to master welding with it, I find I only use it for certain thicknesses as thin stuff I use pulse and thick stuff I use fixed amperage. A foot pedal is great for giving it a boot of amps to get it started though, especially welding into a corner where you want both surfaces to pool, and then you can back the amps off with the foot pedal.

I didn't realise when I bought it but the 260 needs a 32amp supply, luckily my garage has a decent supply but it does limit where else I can use it!

I'd certainly recommend the r-tech (and don't forget to ask for a discount, I got a decent one!).

I've got a R-tech ac/dc 201, bought it after I saw daveyboy recommend the brand. It's a cracking bit of kit. I taught myself how to weld ally with it. Managed to pick mine up second hand for £600, it's got an issue now but I'm sure R-tech will fix it when I get some spare cash together to get it sorted.
Single phase and runs off either a normal 3 pin plug or a 16A socket.
I don't have much to compare it against but for the money it's bang on! Thumbs up

I started off mentioning Jims company (R H Davey I think) and went from there. They couldn't do much discount if you were buying on the 0% finance but I tjink I got 8% or something which on £1700 was a good saving. Certainly offset the extras I bought, a tig consumables box and a load of tig rods.

Check out the Parweld 202, pretty sure they can be had for close to the money you want to spend. Much better than an analogue machine but they don't come with a pedal for a grand. If you can stretch to £1,150 you get a pedal however the Parweld comes with a torch that has up/down amperage controls fitted as standard so the pedal isn't such a necessity and you can always buy one later.

If you want to chat about options or what you get I'm available on 07775 674031.
