Hi everyone,

I'm going to be renewing the mounts on my 6 soon, I'm experiencing some front end shake around 80 mph and above and when giving it some welly in third gear in particular. Gear stick shakes about a lot in 6th when accelerating from 50 mph. After some advice on what needs changing, what I need to check etc. Or any advice regarding the above, I've had the wheels balanced and it's been a lot better since then, but after doing a bit of reading it seems that the mounts could be to blame for it.

Also been reading a lot of conflicting info on what brands to go for etc, so I would like to know the following:

1. Am I better to go with original parts or aftermarket? Heard that vibratechnics are too hard for road use and the baker mounts are not very reliable. Is it better to go with a mixture of OE and aftermarket? Are there any other decent aftermarket mounts out there?

2. Is there a bottom mount for the engine as well as the top?

3. Will I have to get any additional bits or do they all come with the necessary fittings?

Cheers Smile

I was thinking this as well, I'll have a look at them too. Trying to eliminate all possibilities!

Id stick with OEM mounts if it were me.

Three mounts for the engine. Top engine mount on the left hand side of the engine bay. Inspect underneath this very carefully as these are well known for cracking and breaking the plate they mount to.

Bottom engine mount again, left hand side.of the engine block, attached to the subframe.

Gearbox mount is on the right hand side of the engine bay under the battery box.

Long drive shaft or diff bearings likely

Could be tracking ball joints wishbone bushes

Oem . Febi. Or lemforder all are good

Im guessing your using cyclones double check that the mounting surfaces are clean and seated well

Vibration at 80 mph would sugget rear wheel unbalanced or movement at the rear of the car check your rear mounts and wheel bearings not as likely but worth checking
