Hi guys as most of you know I now have a low boost 6 and it came with a magnex decat with full Jetex system. 2.5 bore. Don't get me wrong it Is lovely and quiet but I would like something with the odd pop and bang. I need something 2.5 bore and I do not want it to be droany or boomy. what do you recommend?

I think it will need to over-fuel a bit to get it to pop n bang. I think my car needs to too but im not buying aftermarket ecu then mapping it for pop n bang. Too much money.

Both my previous standard 6's would pop and bang occasionally I had a custom exhaust I made for them. magnex decat powerful ow centre section and longlife back box. love the sound of that exhaust it's amazing it's such a shame I cannot fit it because it is not a big enough bore

Both powerflow and longlife could make you a centre and a rear with a 2.5" bore I'm sure?

Yes they could that is correct. just wondered the results of people here with LB knew what was not boomy but had a bit more character than the jetex

I run a 3 inch manifold back does pop and bang on the overrun and when blipping the throttle changing down after hard acceleration. Mine is a mani flow system

You have a super high boost right? 3" would be to big for a low boost no?? is it droany and horrible on the motorway?

Super high boost but it's far less restrictive than the previous 2.5 inch and no not boomy on motorway mate

spoke to rich as always he is incredibly helpful you have to love him. He has told me 3" is only really necessary for super high boost so would be best to stick with 2.5". I think I should however cut off the joiner bracket on the bottom of the magnex decat as it steps down to 2.25"

Speak to Ash Hargreaves as I believe he has a blue flame exhaust with the slight restriction removed making it 2.5 inch all the way through

I wouldnt as it makes the decat easier to locate/fit and i doubt the 15/20cm of pipe is going to make a difference Laugh

You can still make decent power with 2 1/4" as they still require back pressure unlike a turbo setup. 2.5" may give slightly better flow but it's only really needed for high boost.

Don't get a magnex if you don't want boom at motorway speed lol. Mine is fully custom 2.5" manifold back center exit.

If you went to a 3" you will loose mid range torque due to not enough back pressure I would imagine. Rich has advised a few people before against 3" for that reason.

When I bought my exhaust offa Mabz it had no center box so nothing from the head all the way to the back box and mid range was awful. It felt slower than it did with the 2.25" powerflow setup I had on before. I added a stainless Jetex/ Simons center box and it made it a much better car to drive. Also got it quiet enough for track use and less boomy in the car.

Cheers mate. Yes magnex is super boomy rankness, is Ash Hargreaves just Ash on here? Does anyone know if the Jetex backbox is a straight through diagonal pipe or chambered?

Pass without cutting it open but it's offset and I'm told their very quiet so I would presume chambered?

That's what I was thinking. Rich suggests poking some wire through it and should be able to find out that way but how quiet it is I would guess chambered too

I use a Jetex system as well on my lowboost 6. When i got my Car charged however i needed to have a cat installed to pass the MOT. So we chopped an original PugCat and we welded a universal 2,5" ceramic cat in place. To join it to the center section of the jetex we also Cut the 2.25" section on the center box to make it 2.5" all the way through. Now I am not happy with the fitment of the system as it is a little off after all the cutting and patching we did. If I was to do it again however I would not have chopped the center box as i can't imagine it being restrictive by that short section which is a little more narrow. I called jetex to get just the center silencer from the kit to use with a decat until they quoted me 180€ without postage which is quite steep if you ask me.

I my opinion I would leave your sistem as is mate they sound perfect in my opinion even with a cat like in my case and once up to temperature mine pops on downshifting.

But Marco I'm sure as wonderful as the jetex system is its slightly restrictve because the backbox is chambered

Just had a look but I only see universal silencers, not the GTI6 specific one from the complete exhaust system mate
