Im thinking backwards flush with a slow flow until it runs clear then a forward flow to finish clearing it out
I used to do my fiesta this way never caused an issue

Yeh chuck a hose pipe up the outlet and slowly turn it up done loads of times before. Your block must be rotten though from people topping up with pure water all the time judging by the rusty sludge.

Why not replace it bud?

With that much sludge in the pipes I'd say it'd be near the end of its life unless you know it's been replaced and they've just pumped a new heater with crud.

I just say as I've been there with doing a heap of work then finding the heater goes in a months time Sad

If he has the dash out then sure stupid not to but think he's just got the engine out and the only thing he would be saving time on would be the fact the bulkhead pipes are off which is a very small part of a heater matrix job.

Guys,

Just to bring this back up to speed. Was having a root around the Rallye today. Noticed this in the foot well heater vent....

Now why, unless the matrix is knackered (or previously was knackered) would this be there? Never had any issues with coolant loss etc whilst I was driving it. Know it had hg issues in the past on another engine.

Thoughts?

The fact it has HG issues in the past means it probably pressurized up and popped the matrix previously.
I'm guessing you will have had a replacement matrix shortly after the HG was sorted.

Yeah, Tony, one of the previous owners, has just confirmed he put a new matrix in it. I'll just back flush it and leave it at that.

Ben
