All,

Is there anywhere I can find out what the original finish on the parts of a Rallye were?

I've got a load of parts stripped off, blasted, cleaned up etc. I've got a plating kit coming but I want to be sure I'm getting the finish OEM correct, whether it was bright zinc plate, yellow zinc plate, powder coat etc....most of the initial bits I'll be doing will be rear beam related so the nut/bolts, pipe brackets, heat shields, carriers etc....

Any ideas?

I'd powder coat the rear beam parts as it will hold up to rust better

I see your reasons Ben but I wouldn't go down your route to much most of the components on any car rust and don't last as long as we would all like. I would be doing a better job than the manufacturer's finish. Every manufacturer out there produce these parts with a finish that's acceptable enough to sell on there cars to limit costs. And as you like myself would never sell my car I would be insuring I would protect the parts with more detail than doing them OEM. I understand that you want to do your car this way but on the little things that no one will ever see or appreciate the work and involvement you have carried out. Personally I would do everything on the exterior and interior and some other minor things OEM. But things like brackets and the finish of parts under the car I would take more care to insure they are better protected.

I get all of the above bud.

The car once finished won't be used much at all. Once a week maybe....The times that it is used, its likely to be dry etc.

The whole point of this resto is to restore it to as close to factory spec as possible. I know there are better finishes I could use, however, its not what I want to do.

Bolts
Mostly yellow zinc bud have just stripped and am replacing mine 10.9 grade steel bolts except for the rear caliper bolts which are 12. Grade

Brackets are mostly bright zinc e.g compensator bracket, brake , abs, all come in bright zinc from peugeot

Have shot blasted all the rust of mine kept the good replaced the bad once installed i will paint mine with clear paint enamel stuff just to preserve it
