could it be the immobilizer chip in the key, Ive got 3 keys 2 of which will unlock my car but wont start it, only discover this when i was swapping cases round as the keying bit broke on one. had to swap the chip as well and it worked straight away.

Get a key copied at Timpsons, remove the new chip and put into your old key fob

The fuel pump relays is clicking and you can hear the pump priming, could this be something to do with the starter motor ?

Check the fuse for the alarm siren, IIRC the immobilizer is on the same circuit.

Phase 2 fusebox - http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=69121
Phase 3 fusebox - http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=67123

Fuse 6 on a PH3 IIRC

It's been recovered now 😒 Does the imboliser disable the starter motor I always though it did the fuel pump ?

sounds like loose battery or starter terminals. had a very similar problem where it would work for a while then stop the start turning over but everything else worked. then it would all of a sudden start.

It's in the garage now and I've got a horrible feeling I'm about to get my pants pulled down. I though it could be a loose terminal but for the life of me I couldn't remember where the starter motor is all even see it

Ahh I wonder if this is from the smash on the front ? Maybe it's loosened the wiring

I'd deffo say it's a wiring issue rather than a starter motor issue.

What work was done after the bump?

Umm I used a claw hammer to pry the bonnet open and presumed the rest would fix it self, for some reason I thought the starter motor was around the back of the block

The only thing you could have damaged I'd say is the fan relays if you pryed the bonnet open from the fromt

Mine did exactly this but it didn't start again, turned out to be a fuse for the immobiliser

It was a little while back now tbh so can't remember exactly but from memory it was dead as a dodo but I think I could smell fuel, and from my limited understanding the immobiliser cuts ignition? (Sorry it was ages ago now so it's hard to recall exactly)

i had something similar.....my friend was faffing about in the back of my car with the seats up.

the dingle managed to unplugg the massive earth plug in the middle between the seats.

completely deaded the car.

payed 30 quid to get it towed home to find all i needed to do was plug the plug back in :S

for some reason it stopped the remote part of my central locking working, and nothing else :S

£360 for recovery 3 miles down the road from where there based and a new starter motor. Yep that sounds reasonable :-(
