Can't decide on 50 or 55 profile ? Always thought 50 looked a bit lost in the arch ? And other than being slightly cheaper what's the advantage of 50 over 55 ? Other than PS3s don't come in a 55

what do you call pricey? in my bmw's size they're a bit cheaper than a ps3.

energys are a decent tyre, but wont grip anywhere near as hard as a ps, very good in the wet and last a very long time, o.e on lots of stuff.

I've been thinking the same thing. I like the look of the car on 55s but seems to be a better choice on 50s and generally a bit cheaper.

I'm looking to spend about £50 a tyre. In 55 there isn't a huge amount of choice at that price

Exactly my thought. I think I might drop to 50s and get the PS3s. If I don't like it I can always go back up to 55s once the PS3s need replacing.

I ran Energy Savers in 55 profile on my HDi for 2 years. Loved them. More than enough grip for a HDi and lasted 36000 on the fronts. For a GTi i'm not sure they'd be man enough for the very hardest cornering but an able all rounder imo.

Yes the 50 profile is cheaper and easier to get hold of but the car is designed to run the 55 profile. You are essentially making the car shorter geared and, as stated above, it doesn't look right. 195/55-15 tyres are still cheap compared to running some new car with 17" wheels. The Dunlop Sport BluResponse comes highly recommended.

80mph on 55's is 77.38mph on 50's. Not much of a change at all.

I think a 6 looks decent on a 50's provided it's lowered a little. Mines lowered 30 on the back on 40 on the front in this piccy.

I paid 46 quid delivered for PS3's in 50 profile before Christmas from Camskill, had plenty since the PE2's became unavailable and they seem pretty good to me Smile

My white Rallye came with Toyo Proxies fitted which have to be the worst heap of camel s**t I have ever had on a car, I would even put ditch finders above them, I'm sure Toyo asked the worlds scrap men for all their old margarine tubs to produce these things. Appalling. They are cheap for a reason.

Rant over LOL

50's make for a harsher ride. really bumpy etc.

id go for 55 if you like your comfort, and your less likely to unbalnce a wheel in rogue potholes.

on a side not..... toyo proxes were the best tyre ive ever had on my 306. felt like a was glued to the road

my friend had a set of ps3's on his mkv golf gti. they lasted all of a moonth. and he drives like a fairy

I can't get across how much I disagree. I had toyo t1r and they were hopeless. I killed the full set in 7k miles. I then replaced with michilin pilot exalto 2's and got 30k from those. I'm now on pilot sport 3's and they are leaps ahead of too t1r in every way.

Really. Roll eyes

6.4mm of rubber in 31 days?

The options here are:
He really doesn't drive like a 'fairy'.
He drives 250k p/a.
His suspension alignment was massively out, in which case the catastrophic tyre wear is nothing to do with Michelin.

Which one is it?

I've already done 7k on my PS3's which included a hard session at brandshatch and all day out at prescott hill and the tires are fine. A little feathered but by no means trashed. And about halfway through the fronts.
