I quite like copper slip for protecting and lubricating threads. Most products will need reapplication if protecting exposed ones like that, but I find copper slip seems to last fairly well.

One i came across is wd40 silacone spray its meant to be the same in cleaning and lubrication but wont attract dirt and dust after use.

I have to send the strut back to spax for further inspection :'( this will more than likerly take weeks, and using an old strut with the spax one would be sheer stupidity (?)

you can see what angle the droplink tab should sit at if you fit the standard ones Big grin

regarding the threads, anything waterproof will do, when you need to move the spring pans thoroughly degrease and clean any crap off them, apply some oil and should move nicely (as long as not cheap and rusty, gaz probably the worst ive ever seen for rust!) raceland are usually fooked and I the bin before they get chance to rust.

Yea the main problem i found with the spaz rsx is the front end gets very very bouncy with the stock and old rear shocks, this is fully wound and not setup properly and as seen eailyer probably broken.

Finally got off my arse and stopped playing Fallout 4...

Questions for the forum:
1. can i rebuild the bearing on the top mount?
2. if not can you just buy the bearing.
3. would it be silly to go to baker top mounts.

4. can anyone see damage that would course further problems,
or when the new locking nut arrives, can i put it all back together and drive off?
(new / refurbished / fixed top mount part of the put back together)

a hot afternoon to be working on the car.

Broken / destroyed top mount.

damaged suspension boot

damaged paint on suspension

De threaded locking nut

lower locking nut working perfectly, showing proving strut is not damaged.

safely supporting the car until locking nut and top mount are sorted

Bearing replaced

bearing put back together, waiting for forum advice of what to do with it.

GSF do a pair of SKF bearings for a shade over £20 delivered within the UK, when they have their weekend sales. I'm unsure if they would post out to you though. I'm sure a company popular over there will supply a decent brand for not a lot of money.

The top mount platform itself appears to look OK, but have a look at it closely.

bearing looks fine, do you have the spring pan to match the small diameter spring?

Only problem from my point of view is dirt and whatever else that got onto it and the grease, and the main part the plastic clip that holds it together broke, but it all fits / sits the way it should.

once assembled it stays together with spring tension so the clip doesn't actually do much.
