Chaps,

Bit of an odd one this... Been driving my latest Rallye for the last week with no issues whatsoever, then last Friday it cut out on me three times and Saturday four times for absolutely no reason. I've had dodgy ICV's before and that's definitely not the problem here.

It was giving me an ABS warning light every now and then so I made a mental note to get them checked. Friday morning going up a long straight at 70mph everything died. I pulled up, ignition off, ignition on again and everything was fine. Drove another 60 miles with no problem. Later the same day, same thing but at 30mph, only this time it gave me two warning lights. It's also illuminated just about everything on the dash without cutting out, odometer goes blank then back to normal again. It drives absolutely fine aside from this.

It's going in to be looked at next week but I'm thinking its a voltage issue or earth fault. Anyone got any ideas as to where to start?

Cheers,

John

Wiring was earthed linked through the fuse box in the engine bay next to the abs pump was a proper chop job

Nice one Stan, I'll have a look at that. It's got some weird twist down positive terminal that I've never seen on my previous 11 of these s**t boxes which is odd Huh? LOL

I'll give them a clean and see what's what Thumbs up

Faced with one of these for the first time ever...

So unscrewed it and found the terminals and connector absolutely packed with grease

Dismantled it

Cleaned everything up, stuck it all back together so see what happens! Did the same with the negative terminal too as that was covered in the same.

I have that on my rallye too, seems ok.

I'd have a look at your gearbox earth. Mine lit up the dash like a christmas tree on the HDi when it snapped. Only difference was I couldn't restart.

Well, drove the car 40 miles yesterday with no issues. I'm counting my chickens but I'm hopeful that's solved the problem Smile

Hope it's fixed for good but if problems persist, check the nut fitting next to the red clamp. It holds a few main 12v supply wires together and I had similar symptoms to you once which turned out to be that nut being lose.

Not solved Sad

I've checked the earths and they LOOK ok but I'm going to get someone who actually knows what they are doing to have a gander.

One thing is... It's cut at virtually the same point on the bypass three times now, I could point to a spot on the map as to where it's going to happen Hmm always seems to be bang on five minutes after I've set off from home Dunno cars got some unknown aftermarket fob immobiliser installed, could that be faulting? Need to get it hooked up to a laptop and see if there are any codes being thrown up.

I was sat in the car yesterday with the ignition completely off and the fuel pump must have primed five times in 20 minutes. Not normal...

Curious this one!

Ill bet you is something related with the fuel system, maybe a faulty pump or a collapsed hose, a few years ago I had a Citroen CX that stopped always at the same place (3 times). It was the fuel pump!!
