So after the false dawn of hope when my little 206 rolled off the back of the pickup wagon yesterday after I've been told this morning by the garage that: yes whilst the turbo is fubar there's also definitely something else wrong. (For those who didn't see my previous thread on Oc we broke down in France)

On idle the car is smoking terribly from the engine block, so god knows what wrong and he says he doesn't wanna start charging me to rip the engine itself apart to diagnose what's wrong as it'd probably be cheaper to dig a new engine....

Great so not only can I not get the Rallye to start I'm now stuck in the "borrow-a-fiesta" for a while yet. Life couldn't get any better.

So as far as I can see my options are:
1). Buy a replacement engine (£200ish off the bay) and get my garage to fit (£600+vat in labour)
2). Bring the car home and break it for bits, hopefully make few hundred quid. But then I have no idea what to get to replace / how to finance said replacement

I've got a job interview for a new job that will come with a company car next Tuesday so if I get that I guess the conversation is mute. But what are the groups thoughts/opinions/suggestions ? Don't suppose anyone would fit an engine for me for a smaller fee? They'd have to work away from home though as obviously car can't move!!

Any help/thoughts/sympathies are welcome.

Not a great situation! How long can you use the Fiesta for? I'd be tempted to stick with that until after the interview next week then figure out what to do.

if you're capable of breaking it, throw another engine in it yourself.

Definitely be waiting until after the interview but wanted to have a back up plan.

I can take things to bits but wouldn't trust myself to put it back together the right way up !!

Take lots of photos and make sure you label everything that comes off, fairly straight forward then. Seems like a massive job when you first look at it but it's actually not too bad.

£600+vat is ridiculous for an engine swap

where are you at with the rallye? tried a new CPS?

The engine swap wouldn't be too tricky at all. Got a friend with a crane who would help you?

If in doubt, hang the £720 from the bonnet and I'm sure you'd give it a bloody good go to know you are saving that.

No engine crane now. But also the time factor... I have dead limited free time (ideal for breaking a car as there's no rush) but putting something together I just couldn't do it...

but half of the fun of breaking a car is waiting up until 11.37pm on a Wednesday for someone to collect a door off you, isn't it?

    LOL

    I do feel for you,..
borrow the Fiesta see how job interview goes! take from there

Get another lump and turbo,.. you really would be surprised how little there is that hold them in!
    as said label and photograph!

get someone to help you with the rallye!
maybe someone who has another one willing to swap sensors etc to help you trouble shoot!

Give yourself some mechanical training you certainly seem to like your Peugeots you're going to need a very deep pocket or a moderate level of mechanical nowse!

As already said, it's surprisingly easy to do an engine swap.
If I can do it anybody can.
I'm sure there are tool hire places that you can get a crane for a day from.
If you have all the parts needed to swap it you can do it easily in a weekend.
I could do it in a full day, but there are people on here that could do it in hours.
What have you got to lose by having a go yourself?
