Not on my 6 ....on my dirty diesel...Have got oil leak possible from front & rear Crank seals or Hockey sticks ?

Gearbox / clutch coming out being sorted on 3061.9 D this week & wondered if fitting two hockey stick seals is a straight forward job while flywheels off replacing rear crank seal Clucth etc ???

No one I knows has replaced the two hockey sticks ?...is it a horrible job ?
Any info from anyone who's done them ?
Any advantage with box removed or not ???

you need to drop the sump, oil pump and wind-age tray to give you easy access to the bolts as they are part of the end main bearing caps behind the flywheel

asumming the dirty diesel has a windage tray if not the oil pump wont need removing Wink

box will have to come out as flywheel will need to be removed to re-install the main crank seal

the main cap has to come off to do the hockey stick seals, main crank seal sits in the main bearing cap also.

Rather than start a new thread - did you put sealant on the sticks when installing?

After buying a tool etc I’m Addament the seal is spot on now. I did replace these stick seals also but again under the car in a rush,

How much do they stretch by? As mine seemed to stretch a lot and after leaving overnight hadn’t shrunk at all so I’m hoping there lies my problem. I did check the breather etc and with the gauze in with the cap pushed down it still breathes so rules that out so either I have a issue with these seals or the crank itself I reckon.

There’s a few ideas around but nothing conclusive. I’m gonna take the engine out this time so will make sure it’s spotless and have another go.

Have a crank seal left as well which is a febi ptfe type seal so that’ll go in as well which requires everything to be spotless
