Hi all

New to the forum Thumbs up

Having an issue with my 306 rallye misfiring, I have changed all 4 coil packs and fuel injectors but still no joy.

had it on a diog and it came up with knock sensor? is this a common fault? I thought the purpose of a knock sensor was to let you know if there is an internal issue with the engine.

So I guess the question is has anyone had similar issues and it was fixed after changing the knock sensor or am I wasting my time as the engine has died?

previous to this (although I don't think it related) I have an idle issue - it drops revs and stalls when I drop the clutch coming up to junctions.

I changed all the usual suspects for this ICV, TPS, Map Sensor, disconnected power steering etc. but yet I still have the problem - Any idea's and do you think they are related?

Thanks is advanceBig grin

Hi, yes used oe parts and changed spark plugs - got knock sensor for £40 so may as well try that but not confident it will cure it. My brother had a look and he thinks it could be a valve gone.

Have u ever heard of a knock sensor going? My brother seems to think they should never really go?

Thanks for the welcome 😀

Have you tried a compression test?

Mine was misfiring the other day, tried coil packs and injectors which made no difference so i did a compression test and sure enough the head gasket had gone between cylinders 3&4. Doh

Hi - I have done a compression test but before it started misfiring - might be worth checking again now.

Could be fuel pump / ignition relay had a gti6 the other day with a misfire that I was sure was a coil pack turned out to be the relay. It's bolted to the back of the battery box

Didn't think of relay - I will check that also, I have the knock sensor so may as well fit that now to eliminate. Thanks

I had my car on diag aaggeesss ago and have been meaning to check the knock sensor, I was told it is more likely the wiring so give that a check too.

Will be interesting if it cures your problems

Compression check first that will tell you alot. If all good did you try a relay ?

Have you got a compression tester?
I'm not 100% sure what thread our spark plugs are but i'd guess that this will do the job:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-37442-Compression-Tester-14X18mm/dp/B0001K9TV0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1439638307&sr=8-2&keywords=compression+testers

Simply remove all spark plugs from the engine, disconnect the wiring from all four injectors, screw the compression tester into the spark plug thread for cylinder 1, hold the throttle fully open and turn the engine over a few times, you'll see the gauge shoot up. Then press the release button to release the pressure and move onto the next cylinder. (This is much easier with someone to crank the car over whilst you look at the gauge).
All four cylinders should be within 10% of each other (i think).

For reference when i did my car before i replaced the head gasket i had the following:
Cyl 1 = 200psi
Cyl 2 = 185psi
Cyl 3 = 100psi
Cyl 4 = 100psi

I could actually hear the air gushing out of the other cylinder when i was doing cylinders 3&4.
I took the head off and this was the culprit:

If all four cylinders are up around 180-200psi then i doubt its your head gasket at fault.

Thanks - It was the relay I wasn't sure how to test - I've done the compression test and cylinder 1 & 2 have 60 psi and the other 2 around 170 so I'm guessing my head gasket is probs gone as well.
